In a SPIEGEL interview, conservative intellectual leader and Trump confidant Newt Gingrich discusses the president-elect's future political course, how he is "very cautious" when it comes to nuclear weapons and the threat of trade wars.
SPIEGEL: Mr. Gingrich, what can we expect during the first 100 days of the Trump presidency?
Gingrich: You can expect a great deal of action. Donald Trump is a very action-oriented person. I think in the first few weeks, you're going to see a lot of executive orders repealed, peeling back the Obama legacy. You're going to see steps moving forward across a broad range of fronts, and I think they are likely to be very successful opening weeks.
SPIEGEL: Many people fear that after Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, the United States will become a less tolerant and instead more authoritarian, Putin-style state. This fear is also palpable in Europe.
Gingrich: That is irrational verging on insane. I mean, any suggestion that the most open and diverse society on the planet is likely to in any way resemble Russia requires a suspension of common sense that is pretty hard to deal with. Have you ever been in Moscow?
SPIEGEL: No, unfortunately not.
Gingrich: Then talk to one of your colleagues and ask them what's it like to work there as a journalist, and then just look around here again. You cannot compare those two countries. . .

Newt is a great educator; none better.
Newt is great on his feet. Then he says something that is way out of this world and everybody jumps on him.
Newt is doing fine where he now is.
The life of a moonbat is very over-rated.
The Germans have prospered greatly under the American security blanket over the past seventy years. They have become wealthy and a bit arrogant. Trump is putting them on notice that the free ride will be ending. They have shown no inclination to defend their culture or borders. Soon and very soon they will be paying much more for their security. It is ludicrous for the US with a $20 trillion outstanding debt to keep close to 70,000 troops in Europe at a cost of over $100,000 per soldier per year. Merkel and the other EU freeloaders may not like it but the nonsense will cease.
“Newt is a great educator; none better.”
Yep, Newt put that clown in his place right away.
Great article and because of advisors like him, I hold great anticipation of extraordinary results that propel us forward for 20 years and leave our current competitors in the dust.
Life is great again...
Which only makes sense, as those freeloaders have been discussing independence from NATO.
That's our Newt. We're lucky to have him.
Gingrich: Oh yes, very early. There was this debate in August 2015 with the TV anchor Megyn Kelly, and everybody in the elite said he had lost that fight. But people on the internet, by about 60 to 70 percent, said he had won. I thought, If the gap between the elites and the average citizens is that big, something unusual is happening. The country is fed up with political correctness, and it is fed up with government that doesn't work. It's fed up with weakness being interpreted as wisdom. It's pretty straightforward.
This is great. Newt understands exactly why we voted Trump in. We're tired of elitists who think that government is all about them and not about the people. We also are not very happy with elitists who think that being in government is a chance to try out all their "theories" of governance, with no regard for how well certain policies actually work or their effects on the people who have to live with them.
I can't help but think of that talk show in which Ann Coulter confidently said that Trump will win, and the others on the show looked at her as if she had just sprouted wings and started rain dancing.
Thank you for posting this article. It provides a lesson to all demonstrating better and best responses to the willfully ignorant in the media and everywhere.
“That is irrational verging on insane. I mean, any suggestion that the most open and diverse society on the planet is likely to in any way resemble Russia requires a suspension of common sense that is pretty hard to deal with.”
Wow.
L
REALLY GOOD INTERVIEW
For all of Newt’s quips that look out of the blue and stupid, just read this and you’ll understand why Trump likes having him around.
Gingrich: Have you ever been in Moscow?
SPIEGEL: No, unfortunately not.
Hmm!
