“What we Northern MiQMaw find offensive is the New Age Wiccan Vendors who seem to think that mixing a few Chinese dream catchers in with their crystals and goddess amulets somehow make them fit right in.”
No kidding! A bit of California Hollywood makes everything just so cool. Add a bit of pan flute on the recorded track and you’re ready to dance. Yuck!
Fine, then go back to WWII terminology and call the “Japs.”
The last big war we won, that stayed won.
That’s funny. I don’t find the word Oriental derogatory.
In Oklahoma over half the towns and counties have Indian names. They did manage to ban Little Red and replaced him with this.
It’s been the politically correct “thing” for a while now. THINGS are oriental, PEOPLE are Asian.
Oriental is for things (rugs etc.), Asian is for people.
Does that apply with ‘Occidental’?
I have no idea. I do know that I can’t say stuff like “Chinese fire drill” and “too many Indians, not enough chiefs” any more.
Maybe the Occidental peoples are not thin skinned and don’t suffer from outrage-by-proxy-syndrome ;-)
Oriental means “of (or from) the orient” and was not considered offensive until recently. I’m not going to kow tow to the tender feelings of those orientals.
