That’s funny. I don’t find the word ‘Oriental’ derogatory.

It’s been the politically correct “thing” for a while now. THINGS are oriental, PEOPLE are Asian.
Oriental is for things (rugs etc.), Asian is for people.
Does that apply with ‘Occidental’?
I have no idea. I do know that I can’t say stuff like “Chinese fire drill” and “too many Indians, not enough chiefs” any more.
Maybe the Occidental peoples are not thin skinned and don’t suffer from outrage-by-proxy-syndrome ;-)
Oriental means “of (or from) the orient” and was not considered offensive until recently. I’m not going to kow tow to the tender feelings of those orientals.
