Israeli officials are awaiting what could be one of the first announcements from the new Trump administration: a decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Such a move, which Trump repeatedly promised on the campaign trail, may please many Israelis but anger Palestinians as well as officials in Arab nations, who could see it as directly provocative and a hindrance to future peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.
Palestinians claim Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, and Trump, like the Israeli government, views Jerusalem as Israels eternal capital. Since Israels creation, the United States has maintained that the status of the holy city of Jerusalem should be settled only in negotiations between the two parties, and Trump appears prepared to dramatically break with tradition.
Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, but neither leaders report of their conversation referred to a U.S. Embassy move.
The president emphasized that peace between Israel and the Palestinians can only be negotiated directly between the two parties and that the United States will work closely with Israel to make progress towards that goal, the White House said in a statement.
It also said that Trump invited Netanyahu to visit the White House in early February, making him one of the first foreign leaders invited to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. under the new administration.

They fail to mention that the 67 and 73 "Israeli" wars were actually started by the surrounding Arab states (Egypt, Jordan, Syria, etc) who wanted to invade and destroy Israel. But little Israel rose up and threw them back. I think God had a hand in that. And in the 73 war, Israel was on the cusp of actually conquering Egypt and Jordan until it decided to pull back. Israel gave back most of the land it won in those wars, but is holding on to its Eternal God-given Capital (Jerusalem) and enough of the land to make it defensible from the Arab invaders.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the U.S. does not recognize Palestine as a state and it's never been a state. They were offered statehood at the same time as modern Israel, but turned it down and the Arabs have been at war with Israel ever since. It's all or nothing with the fascist Arabs. All for them, nothing for Israel. They do not and never will want peace or coexistence. Only conquest and dominance.
Hmmmm, I keep looking for references for Muslims sliming up Jerusalem way way before Christ. And even for a few hundred years after Christ.
Oh, sorry, it took a venal, corrupt, and mentally deranged person to gin up that collection of prejudices.
Muslims can take their claim and shove it up their “prophet”.
As for the MSM, too bad they did not attend a reputable university and get some of dat eddikashun.
Ya ... so ?
“” ... may please many Israelis but anger Palestinians as well as officials in Arab nations, ... “
Ya ... so ? “
Indeed. Everything angers them.
I’m glad that Trump will not give a sh...er...give an Obama.
Angering Arab nations is pretty low on my list of things to avoid. In fact, I would like it if they were angered far more often.
The 1948 partition did not create a Palestinian state or offer one. East Jerusalem and the West Bank were Jordan before 1967.
Never Have! Never Will! The muzzie Claim Is False!
“.......but anger Palestinians as well as officials in Arab nations, who could see it as directly provocative and a hindrance to future peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.”
What “peace negotiations”!? It takes two, or more to negotiate, and if the Arabs, and the Arabs with a ‘p’ in front of their names like a moniker online won’t participate, then there’s no such a thing as “peace negotiations”.
Jews have more of a claim on Medina than Muslims do on Jerusalem.
This will anger the “Palestinians”? Weren’t they delirious and near incoherence already? Not much of anything has ever diminished their pent-up rage and fury, so this should have negligible effect either way.
There shall NEVER be a “Palestinian” state. If that were ever a possibility, the motley collection of tribal cast-offs would have formed a working government, and not just a series of terror cells. Their only unifying principle is to force the Israelis into the sea, but they have not the least idea how to utilize the real estate once they occupy it. None need only look at the Gaza Strip to see what all of what is now Israel would come to resemble should the dream of expelling every last Jew from the Holy Land be realized. It was a desert waste before, and it would become a desert waste again.
Exactly. The only time a Palestinian is happy is when an Israeli dies.
..perhaps the president is more aware than people realize, concerning the details of God’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob...
There was an Israeli state in the land of Israel 2000 years before the evil prophet of Islam allegedly flying on a "magical horse" from Mecca to Jerusalem.
The Palestinians are Arabs who were brought to the region by the Ottoman empire as part of the Muslim occupation in the region. They are definitely not the tribes from Crete who settled down in the 5 cities of Gaza strip after the Exodus of Israel from Egypt. These tribes were called Philistines and they werent Arabs at all and todays Palestinians are definitely not their descendants. The Philistines dont exist as a nation.
Israel isn't just a name of a state. It's first and for all a name of a nation (Am Yisrael). Israel is the name of the father of the nation (Jacob) and Israelis are his descendants. The real meaning of the word 'Israeli' is someone who belongs to the nation of Israel and not only "a citizen of a state called Israel".
Gentiles invented the word Jews. When the Persians, the Greeks and the Romans occupied the land of Israel they called all the Israelis in the name 'Jews' because at those days the tribe of Judah was the biggest and the dominant tribe which survived the exile of Assyria in which 10 tribes of Israel were exiled. The tribe of Judah lived in the Judean desert thus the gentiles who occupied the land of Israel called the members of this tribe (and also the ones of Benjamin and Levi who joined it) in the name 'Jews'.
When Israelis (Jews) who live abroad go to synagogue they don't read about Jews in the prayer books nor in the Torah but about 'The Nation of Israel', 'The Children of Israel', 'The House of Israel,'Shema Yisrael' etc. They are Israelis because they belong to the nation of Israel even if they aren't citizens of a state called Israel. Both the words 'Jews' and 'Israelis' refer to nationality, to ethnic identity and not to religion. Jews are members of the tribe of Judah and not "people who believe in Judaism". And the nation isn't called Judah but Israel, and so does the land and in the future the 10 tribes will return to this nation.
That's why Arab citizens of Israel don't define themselves as Israelis but as Arab/"Palestinian" citizens of a state CALLED Israel. They aren't members of the Israeli nation but of the Ishmaelite nation. Ishmael used to shoot arrows at Isaac (father of Israel) while saying: "I'm only playing..." That's why there's no "Israeli-Palestinian conflict" but a WAR that the Ishmaelite/Arabs opened on the Israelis. Also Muhammad murdered Israelis in Saudi Arabia who refused to accept his murderous pagan dream.
Couple of facts about Israel that the haters of Israel don't like:
1. Israel became a state in 1312 B.C., two millennia before Islam.
is he suppsoed to make an official statement and announce a date to declare that htey are moving it? or will it be doen behind hte scenes so to speak?
This is exactly the right approach to take. The U.S. embassy can eventually be moved to Jerusalem, but the U.S. has no reason to go out on a limb and make this move right now. We have had a long-standing policy of placing the responsibility for resolving this dispute on Israel and its neighbors, and we should only get involved if they all want us involved as intermediaries.
I don't know if the U.S. recognizes a Palestinian state, but every agreement we signed with Israel and the Palestinians back in the 1990s is aimed at achieving some degree of independence for the Palestinians.
