I heard a discussion on this, I believe, by Judge Napolitano. The Feds can’t force a state to use their resources to enforce Fed Law, but darn sure the Feds can come in to a state (or city) and enforce Federal Laws. Up until now, the Feds have not wanted to allocate the manpower, but that priority may now be subject to change.

Pull federal funds and use them for the wall. I’d rather have CALIFORNIA pay for that wall, than even Mexico.

“The state is saying, ‘I don’t want to be complicit with federal enforcement authority.”

So Roe v Wade is not to be enforced in California?

The Court Sued the State of Arizona for this very thing.

The Court Can’t have it both ways.

Could California become a ‘sanctuary state’ under Trump?

There was a recent study that showed 74% of Californians were opposed to 'sanctuary' policies for illegal aliens - even more striking, 2/3 of California Hispanics were opposed as well. This kind of grand-standing overreach by California liberal politicians is not only unlikely to stand up to court challenges, but by defying the wishes of Californians, it could conceivably start California back on the road to political sanity.

They sure did. And when Arizona passed some immigration enforcement laws of their own because the Federal government wasn’t doing their job, the courts told them that they couldn’t make their own immigration laws because it was federal jurisdiction.

Trump should threaten to enforce federal drug laws as well if they don’t cooperate with immigration laws. Pit the pothead against the illegals.

Obama’s Justus dept. told AZ, we aren’t doing anything to repel the invasion and we’re suing you to stop you from protecting yourselves.
Oath of office indeed.

Not sure if the defunding strategy will work. If not, then I propose that Trump order DHS to set up immigration checkpoints at every major crossing going in or out of any sanctuary city (or state). Traffic would be brought to a crawl until the city abandons the sanctuary status, and I think the legal support for this would be that if a city is in defiance of US immigration laws, then that gives the federal government the right to treat the city borders the same way it would the national borders.

Pure insanity. Now that the worm has turned, CA, with the help of Eric Holder, wants the opposite ruling.

I live in So Cal. Believe I would love to leave and move to Idaho. But several circumstances make that an impossibilty at this time.

I wish this state had not been overrun with loonies who have put utter lunatics in power here. I dont know how it happened. It used to be a good place to live. Now the few of us logical thinking people who are left here have to suffer. Its hell on earth here, yet so many of the people think its beyond great. Unreal

I’m really thinking it is time for the people of California to march on Sacramento. If only CalGOP’s leadership wasn’t an absolutely useless gathering of spineless weaklings.

And likewise, the states cannot force the feds to give them federal funds when the states fail to adhere to federal laws.

So, okay, California. Have it your way. Go ahead and secede.

The feds will stop sending you funds to support your state, its infrastructure, and welfare, education and retirement system. It will seal your borders, withdraw its military, close off federal lands, buildings and property within the state. Shut down the federal highways that you depend upon for transportation and close the ports that it owns.

But, if you are willing to cough up a few trillion dollars to purchase the aforementioned properties and debts, I’m sure we can work something out. Then again, your state is already $500 billion indebt, so good luck with that.

Idiots. Stop smoking weed. It rots your brain.

What do you mean Congress can’t force state and local governments to enforce federal laws?

Then why do officials all over this nation swear an oath to abide by the laws of our nation. Many of them swear to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution.

City law enforcement can’t be called upon to uphold the laws of the nation? Since when?

Police don’t help to apprehend the FBI’s ten most wanted?

I get so sick and tired of Lefty judges coming down with a decision that Leftist newspapers then herald until the end of time.
