Waterboarding is not torture. Trump and Mattis need to clarify.
But also never telegraph what you will and won’t do.

I read General Mattis has a bear rug in his living room. Its not dead but too scared to move.

The pack of beer and cigs approach worked fairly well in WWII. It has been tried on islamists and does not work in most cases.

These people have a belief system and a god they fear.

You don’t necessarily need to use waterboarding but you do need ‘enhanced interrogation’, i.e. make them miserable. No sleep, alternating heat and cold, loud recordings of screaming babies etc. You also need to break down their faith to get the best results - which we have never done.

Mattis is great but he is old school and from everything I read he doesn’t understand islam. He thinks he is fighting terrorists or extremists.

“Waterboarding is not torture. Trump and Mattis need to clarify.”

Trump has clarified his position that it is not torture but Congress and Obama passed a law against it.

Of course it’s torture. Your body thinks you’re drowning and you start to die. If you haven’t experienced it you really can’t talk. I’ve gone through it. No other word for it.

From what I have read, Obama signed an executive order requiring the American officers and agents worldwide conform to Army Field Manual 2 22.3 (which prohibits the use of waterboarding). That same EO closed CIA black sites.

I think this could be easily overturned by a Trump EO.

If I were Trump, I would let the world just THINK that I will not use any enhanced interrogation techniques.

Won’t the prisoners be surprised when they hear water running? Ha-ha-fooled-ya!

You are right, it is not torture. And waterboarding does work.

BUT, torture does work. And I’ve seen it a more effective means of extracting information. Especially when you have multiple suspects and present the same questions.
