I work for a very large electronics corp. It's a fact...they lay off American workers and backfill with H1b visa holders. Been going on for the last decade, particularly the last 5 years. I hope Trump gets a handle on this.

My son told me about this. The key is that the H1B's are indentured servants... if they lose the job they have to leave the country; if they last 3 (or maybe its 4) years, they get the green card. In the meantime, they can be asked to work 70 or more hours a week.

That squeezes Americans, who are paying off their college debts, because they thought STEM careers would be interesting and professional--40 to 50 hours a week.

What’s not surprising is that when it’s obvious the Gov’t doesn’t do it’s job denying these visas. Taking advantage of their incompetence.

On top of that, they will work for as little as $8/hour and they squeeze 10 or more into a company paid apartment.

It is not uncommon for an Indian to be paid half of their US counterpart but only get $8/hr from it as their company keeps the rest.

“The key is that the H1B’s are indentured servants... if they lose the job they have to leave the country;”

One estimate is that there are now 5 million illegal aliens Indians in this country. 5 million. They overstay their initial H-1B visa and hide out in these overstuffed apartments waiting to get picked up on contract later. The paperwork is forged to show they left the country so they remain eligible to work again; rinse, repeat.

I am in IT (20 years)

This crap was going on back then and only has gotten worse. It is a form of slavery, the way some consulting firms hold the immigration status over the H1s.

Plus, it suppresses the salaries of the rest of us. Those firms DO NOT CARE. Like was said, they get a huge percentage of the hourly rate. It should be criminal.
