This would be a good strategy with less risk than the nuclear option, saving the "nukes" for later.

I didn't know about this rule until I read this article, but this is brilliant. We must work to persuade McConnell that this is the way to go.

Let's make sure Gorsuch gets confirmed.

Truth is they probably won’t have to do either. It’s just a matter of telling Schumer “we’ll use the nuclear option if we have to, it’s up to you. If we do it now, it’ll be the new normal for any future nominations. It’s up to you”.

They will scream and yell, then cave.

If each Democrat speaks for 10 hours -- twice, that would mean 960 hours of maximum filibuster time.

That means after 40 days of making them speak NON-STOP...Gorsuch would be confirmed. More likely much sooner than that.

Perhaps each one could speak longer, but I doubt it. Based on Pat Leahy's sad performance today just speaking for 15 minutes, I doubt he could last an hour on the floor (and they must stand, I believe).

If the Dems ever regain power, they are going to burn the entire country to the ground no matter what is done or not done.

They are psychopaths who have been told no and had all their toys taken away.

What generally happens when a woman tell her control freak boyfriend no and then gets a restraining order against him...

He kills her.

That’s the boat we are all in now.

Nuke ‘em now.

President Trump will likely get 3 nominations during his first term: Ginsburg and Kennedy.

Enough to stack the Court for 2 decades.

Should he win a second term, SCOTUS gets packed for the foreseeable future. Breyer and Thomas

true or false.

with a two-thirds vote,

Pence should be having “conversations” with the Senators. If he wants to, he can make life difficult for them for the next eight years.

This shouldn’t take more than enough weeks.

The demo rats need to think about how they handle this one.

Whatever the outcome is, the process to get there will become the standard.

Trump will get 3 more bites of this Apple over the next 8 years and we will have even greater majorities when it happens.

Two filibuster speeches apiece for 40+ Democrat senators? That could go for weeks!

Dems will always get their flawed supreme court Nominees. Some republicans will always, error on the side of being fair while Dems never will.

Since Dems are the only ones who fillibuster Supreme court Nominees, I say go with the nuclear option.

With the nuclear option, Dems won’t gain anything with a dem president, and republicans will get a constitutional judge with a GOP president!

Bring on the Nuclear option, we conservatives have nothing to lose!

The Dems should just convene now and decide which eight Rats Senators are going to vote for Gorsuch. The 2018 election will be here quick.

In living memory the Senate had no "cloture" as was acted out in Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, to filibuster was without remedy. That's part of the dirty and not-so-little secret many a sitting Senator may not even be aware of any longer.

The Filibuster is not in the Constitution, the need to "have 60 votes" to pass something through the U.S. Senate is never the real issue. They need 60 votes to end a potential filibuster, something exhaustion could accomplish in due course anyway.

No, the "filibuster" and its terminator "cloture" are not in the Constitution, to be sure, though the U.S. Senate certainly is, as is both Houses of Congress' right to setting its own Rules.

The only issue, unless like so many of our newsreaders one is hopelessly lost in the subterranean maze under Washington, DC is only among the Senate Rules, which can be changed either permanently - as when "cloture" was added to those Rules (by a Democrat-controlled Senate fifty years ago) - or even suspended temporarily, or for a specific purpose or group of purposes.

The Republican majority can't escape it's responsibility as the Majority, even if the Hydrogen bomb solution hidden under "going nuclear" above results in the Body of the States becoming a more democratically responsive assembly.

The smell of ass doth lie heavily upon the Chamber. Getting a presidential nominee confirmed should not require the kind of super majority needed to confirm treaties and amend the Constitution.

End the filibuster, by enduring a filibuster if necessary, and this ridiculousness is ended.

I predict that they will draw out the questioning but he will be easily confirmed by a large majority.

Scummee is coming off like a jerk...

The man was approved unanimously for his present judgeship.

If Schumer can delay until May I heard, the court will likely tie on several big cases like transgendered bathrooms and EPA rules and those will remain law. Gorsuch needs to be confirmed quickly.

But Schummers goal is to delay his appointment until April when the supreme court makes it decisions on cases they will hear,if the make up of the court is still 4-4,the decisions then go back to the lower court.
There are decisions on abortion I believe, and others that have been ruled in the lower courts favorable to Schummer,so he would love to have them revert back in their favor.
So a tactic that could last six months would suit him fine

Just call their bluff and make them filibuster. It would be over in days.

Besides which, I heard it reported on FBN this morning that 7 democrat Senators have already said they're willing to allow a vote. We only need 8 to avoid this stupid dog and pony show.

The rats can only hold out for so long. This is going to hurt them bigly and sooner or later that will occur to some of their more astute members.

Judicial Crisis Network Launches $10 Million Campaign to Preserve Justice Scalia’s Legacy, Support President-Elect Trump Nominee

Multi-Million Dollar Campaign Targets Vulnerable Democrat Senators

For Immediate Release: Monday, Jan. 9

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Judicial Crisis Network (JCN) today announced plans for a national campaign to confirm President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court. Coming off of its historic “Let the People Decide” victory in the Garland nomination battle, JCN will engage a comprehensive campaign of paid advertising, earned media, research, grassroots activity, and a coalition enterprise, all adding up to the most robust operation in the history of confirmation battles. JCN and its allies will focus on states where Senate Democrats are vulnerable in 2018, particularly those where Trump won by large margins. JCN spent more than $7 million in its Let the People Decide effort, and it expects to spend at least $10 million to confirm the next justice.

“We are preparing to launch the most robust campaign for a Supreme Court nominee in history and we will force vulnerable Senators up for re-election in 2018 like Joe Donnelly and Claire McCaskill to decide between keeping their Senate seats or following Chuck Schumer’s liberal, obstructionist agenda,” said Carrie Severino, Chief Counsel and Policy Director of the Judicial Crisis Network.

“Any vulnerable Senator who signs up for Schumer’s obstructionist strategy will pay a heavy price in 2018. Exit polls showed that over one fifth of voters said the Supreme Court was a primary reason for their vote and of that large percentage of Americans, Trump won those voters by a resounding 57-40 margin. And he won some of those states by overwhelming margins. The President-elect clearly has a mandate when it comes to the Supreme Court and this effort will ensure that the will of the people prevails,” Severino continued.
