Democrats are becoming the party of secession

Let’s agree that President Trump’s travel ban on visitors from seven nations was a sensible idea hobbled by flaws, especially regarding green card holders and dual citizens. Let’s also agree we haven’t seen a rollout this clumsy since the debut of ObamaCare, which was far more serious because it penalized millions of Americans while Trump’s order inconvenienced hundreds of foreign nationals.

Still, we can assume, based on past performance, that Trump will learn from the mistakes. His fierce determination to be a successful president cannot co-exist with rookie blunders.

But what about the other players in the drama? Can we say the media will now correct its excess of bile and cover Trump as a legitimate president and not as an invasive species?

No, no, no. On the contrary, we must say that Trump aide Steve Bannon was on target when he called the Washington media “the opposition party.”

Don’t take his word for it. Stick a toe into the toxic sludge that passes for straight-news coverage in the Washington Post, the New York Times and others

Those slaves are us, by the way.

This is why I left my home of 46 years, Seattle, for a 32 acre “hobby farm” in south central KY, and cancelled all health insurance.

I feel like I’m living in the 19th century culture but with the modern conveniences of the 21st century.

I LOVE IT!

One of the problems with identity politics is eventually you will be left with only the people who care about identity.

I watched this morning as President Trump sat at a conference table with black leaders who actually want to help solve the problems of their community. They want schools that work, jobs, same things all f us want and they finally have a president who cares

They may well totally collapse, or become a drug/crime capitol...however, in spite of all the nonsense that is California, it’s also a very productive state, still. It’s one of the few states which puts more into the federal treasury, than it’s people (illegals and all) take out of it....

If we can get a handle on illegal immigration, the people of California....may come back to their senses.

I agree that if Cali secedes, the dems in the rest of the 49 will not win a national election every again because they need those 55 votes that Cali provides. I think you may be seeing the DNC trying to squash the Cali-Exit movement because it will kill the DNC nationally.

I do think that the items I brought up in my initial post is making the dems a regional party, not a nation party anymore. Perhaps Trump winning in the rustbelt states are a sign of this happening.

Has any party ever succeeded except the Democrat Party?

"California" doesn't get to secede. The Blue counties do. The Red food-producing counties stay with us.

Democrats are the party of anti Americanism. They are the party controlled by foreign interests.

If this far-fetched idea ever came to be, who is to say the rest of the nation would let the entire state go? Sure, economic hubs like LA, SF, and Silicon Valley would go as they are the most left wing areas of the state. And that would provide the breakaway state a strong base for its economy.

But much or most of inland California is red. Why, in this highly unlikely scenario of secession actually happening, would the rest of the union allow the coastal secessionists to have the whole state? If it’s about divergent values, then those red counties (with significant agricultural and mineral wealth) may wish to remain in the union, and the union might insist that they be allowed to do so.

Let them go...minus the red areas of the state, and any federal land (like military bases and national parks) in the blue areas.

It is not up to the rest of the states to say this county or that county is good or bad whatever. The ENTIRE state is the autonomous entity as described AND RECOGNIZED in the US Constitution. If the state votes to secede then the whole thing becomes a country. If internally there is another separatist movement then that is California’s issue to deal with. California can Balkanize AFTER it becomes a separate country.

No, if the state votes to secede then nothing happens, at least not based on that vote alone. The rest of the nation would have to agree to let Calif go. And in this scenario, who is to say that the President and Congress wouldn’t negotiate the possible freedom of the red areas of Calif from the rule of LA and SF? Maybe negotiate another ballot initiative for Calif, that allows the individual counties to decide for themselves, allowing the ‘Balkanization’ to happen as a condition of independence?

Anyway, this is all speculation based on something that’s not going to happen. Californian elites are upset now in the wake of Trump becoming President, but the last decade has shown multiple wild swings in power, so the Democrats will likely and unfortunately be back in charge before too long. And there is no way the LA-SF-Silicon Valley elites will pass up the chance to once again impose their will on the red states.
