It’s just semantics. But the biggest healthcare problem is cost, not who’s going to pay.
Didn’t Sanders say that Democrats and Republicans are owned by the Pharmaceuticals? Make that the entire healthcare establishment.
I’m getting suspicious of the “medical breakthrough” stories run regularly on the evening news. They are also advertisements for the medical industry.
Get your iPad handy and look up the cost of the numerous prescription drugs advertised in TV commercials. Go to goodrx.com.
Yep, too many people benefiting from the costs of healthcare for there to be a will to change it. From a systemic point of view, a system where both the doctor and patient are spending money from someone else (insurance company) you’re only going to have ever-increasing costs. For non emergency procedures there’s no incentive to shop around and look for the best cost:benefit solution.
Lasik is a good example. A procedure that used to cost several thousand dollars has been reduced to a fraction of that due to it being an elective procedure that people would shop around for. With the current model the opposite happens, I pay every month when I don’t need anything so when I do have medical needs I feel entitled to the best of everything in excess of what is needed. The hospital goes along due to liability concerns too.
It is not capitalism, which I define as “transactions that are mutually beneficial between parties”.
Tough business when you have a product your customer base can't afford.
