OROVILLE, Calif. (KCRA) —

Crews are beginning to make repairs to the spillways at Lake Oroville, the California Department of Water Resources said.

“Efforts are underway to make repairs to both the primary and auxiliary spillways at Lake Oroville,” officials tweeted.

Military-grade helicopters are picking up 1-ton containers of rocks from a parking lot near Lake Oroville, flying them to the erosion scar at the emergency spillway and dropping the containers into the hole.

If this dam fails, Democrats in CA will lose some seats and the next Governor will be a Republican.

Moonbeam is concerned about the effects a large volume water release will have on the snail darter. Environmental impact statements should be completed and resulting lawsuits should be cleared up in a decade or so. Those baskets hold about 1/2 cubic yard of stone. Think about how many helicopter trips that will take. Don’t those helos burn fossil fuels? Why isn’t Moonbeam worried about the carbon footprint of this project? Moonbeam and his ilk are constantly lecturing us on our responsibility to the planet. Now he doesn’t care all that much about global warming.

The whole thing is really bizarre. I am still shaking my head the officials gave the evacuation orders on a Sunday afternoon... no prior warning to be prepared ... makes absolutely no 'common' sense...

Prayers for all in harm’s way, including all the rescue services on stand by.

I saw a video of a track hoe filling up wire baskets. You need huge heavy boulders, anything less will be like ping pong balls.

I'm sorry, it must be the scotch I'm sipping, but I read "track hoe" and "ping pong balls" and started LOLing.

But I guess that does kind of explain why Jerry Brown spent the money on illegal immigrants instead of repairs:

"Bros before (track) hoes."

From what I’ve understood, the “officials” had been just sitting around staring at each other with their thumbs up their collective backsides, and come Sunday the county sheriff felt forced to make the call himself, after seeing the erosion on the emergency spillway. That’s the why of the Sunday call.

Is anyone up for a pool (pun intended) on the day the emergency spillway breaches? I pick Sunday, February 19.

Don’t even joke about it, that much water emptying rapidly is going to put stress on fault lines.

A lot of those people think they are going home in a day or two. I’ve seen several interviews with evacuees on TV and online and they are not understanding the reality of the situation.

In 6 months they will wish they had all that water they are releasing.

WOW! I did not realize that it was the county Sheriff that made the call... I am surprised... As I have said earlier, I would have been warning people last Thursday to be prepared to flee... Fleeing in the dark seemed just crazy.

Overflowing reservoirs would not be a problem if the one-party state had done general maintenance.

We’ve had years of drought and low water levels to do any work needed in a relaxed organized thorough manner.

It was ignored.

Now it has to be a half-*ssed rush job where there is real danger with the next set of storms coming.

If there is a weather machine outside the imaginations of conspiracy theorists, now’s the time to dial it up to 11.

No joke the earthquake is coming and exactly for the reason you stated. I think it starts raining again here on Thursday - gonna be a mess. It could get biblical around here. The fault lines are soaked the whole way down California. We are so due for a major earthquake
