One Press Conference, Two Audiences
The Atlantic ^ | 2/17/17 | CONOR FRIEDERSDORF

Posted on 02/17/2017 8:51:49 AM PST by madprof98

Viewers who watched it themselves saw a rambling, misleading performance. But those who relied on conservative cable newscasts or talk radio hosts got a very different impression.

On Thursday, Donald Trump gave a press conference that was rife with untruths and evasions. Let’s begin with specific examples of demonstrable falsehoods, so that readers who are favorable to the president won’t have to trust my characterization: [Blather, Blather]

***

Perhaps the divergent coverage of Thursday’s press conference helps to illustrate that a great many of those people aren’t seeing the same information as those who oppose Trump—they are being fed lies and untruths by coastal-dwelling millionaires like Hannity and Limbaugh; and they exist at a time when even more responsible right-leaning outlets that make up their information bubble are unlikely to target the lies they encounter, and in a culture where a columnist like Goodwin sees what’s going on and celebrates it as Trump playing the game well.

The American right complains about the media as much as any ideological movement ever has, even as it wallows in a right-of-center media ecosystem far more dishonest and less rigorous than The New York Times on its worst day. Some of its most popular figures pander and mislead and constantly vilify the other side. Insofar as that other side writes off their entire audiences, the populist right-wing will keep winning. Its Achilles’ heel is that it relies on blatant misinformation to win. Can conservatives or libertarians or liberals pierce the bubble? Are they even trying?

So if you just listened to it yourself without Rush helping you, you share the grief of Conor here? Really? (BTW, talk about coast dwellers: the author resides in Venice, CA.)

We gripe about the media as much as anybody because the media is in league with those who oppose our point of view. Why would the left complain about the media, the media covers every story in a way biased well toward the left’s positions.

Of course, the left still complains, because that is what they do.

“Viewers who watched it themselves saw a rambling, misleading performance.”

I watched it and saw vintage Trump take down a group of rambling, misleading jackal reporters.

Trump is prone to rambling. But he doesn’t stutter and he doesn’t need a staff to to be give him prepackaged comments and response to memorize.

So they are admitting that the media is activist left wing ideologues - and they are anti-Trump, as we always knew.

Trump was in complete command - it was a virtuoso performance. I merely watched the entire conference with no commentary from anyone. Trump was having fun and giving them hell. But he was in complete control.

Trump got more votes than any Republican in history, that’s just a fact.

I think he just misspoke in regards to EC votes.

The blue collar billionaire was at his best yesterday. Then today, the mother of all fake news “breaks” regarding National Guard mobilizations (which I wish was true). The next eight years are going to be awesome!

Conor gets his news from David Brock, I guess.

Off point: why do parents use ethnic first names that clash with their surnames? Irish first name, German last name. Awful.

More specifically, the media is in league with traitors to the US Constitution and its duly elected government. If the government were, as it recently was, a utopian progressive globalist government seeking the overthrow of the US as a nation state, the media would, as it has, be in absolute lockstep. When the government becomes nationalist and seeks to strengthen the nation and its people, the media remains in lockstep with progressive politicians and parties and is hostile with like-minded politicians to the point of seeking the overthrow of that nationalist government.
The article is essentially correct, as was made clear at the presser by President Trump. He remarked that the US has been a divided nation for a long time. It is divided by globalist Marxists who seek its demise and citizens who are committed to the strengthening of the US and its Constitution. Really very simple.

He also doesn’t need a teleprompter.

Ditto! And it was really great entertainment to see the hang-dog faces of the media.

Not for most things. But for when he wishes to deliver a concise, coherent message he does. Pretty sure he used a teleprompter on January 20.

Saw it myself and was laughing (happy) in “real time.”

There’s a reason we elect an individual, not a committee and not a machine, to president.

The individual needs to be able to think on his feet.

Trump.

If you wear a MAGA hat in Venice you are legally shot on sight. Luckily, gangbangers and the homeless are welcomes with leis and cash.
