A politician in Washington state wants to know why cooperating with federal immigration authorities landed a state trooper in hot water.
Steve O'Ban, R, a state senator from Tacoma, Wa., sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee, D, Friday expressing "serious concerns" over an administrative review the Washington State Patrol may be undertaking at the governor's request.
An unnamed state trooper is being grilled for telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement about one of their suspects last week, wanted on a felony warrant and found after a traffic accident on I-5.
That man is Armando Chavez Corona, who ICE says was convicted on a felony drug charge and departed to Mexico four times from 1996 to 2000.
The trooper did not detain Chavez Corona, who was not at fault in the accident, but ICE picked him up at the scene of the collision after the trooper contacted the agency. He currently awaits deportation.
"The State Patrol is reviewing whether the trooper followed an internal policy that limits how much troopers can do to help federal immigration officials," reported the Tacoma News Tribune Friday.
O'Ban insinuated in his letter that Inslee is politicizing what should be a law enforcement issue.
"I'm concerned that this investigation is motivated at least in part by the governor nationalizing this issue, when it shouldn't be," he said.
In the letter, he warned, "Let us be clear, the issues raised here are not controversies of the new administration but are policies and practices of the Obama administration.
"President Obama himself stated, 'If you're a criminal, you'll be deported.'
"In addition, under President Obama an individual with an 'aggravated felony' was a top priority for deportation."
Inslee so far has not responded to the senator's letter. In the past he has set himself firmly against Donald Trump's immigration policies.
Last June, Washington's governor denounced candidate Trump as a "clear and present danger to our state."
I hope that the gubner has a moment with one of our many drunken illegal invaders...
HA! Washington state courts are too busy trying to destroy the lives of Christian florists who will not bow to the gay agenda. They have no time for enforcing actual laws.
The overriding priority should be the safety of the citizens. This piece of garbage needed to be off the streets.
Any idiot politician that can’t see that needs to be rode out of town on a rail or locked up in the same cell as the perp.
You mean like judge Robart?
We need a wholesale house cleaning of these idiot democrats who chastise a law enforcement official when he works with other law enforcement officials to enforce the law....
A big THANK YOU to this warrior and a THANK YOU to the Warrior in Chief.
Now, the rest of us should be emboldened also.............
I think the gubner (is he really an elected governor?) needs to face federal charges of attempting to hide a felon, (and illegal alien) AND obstructing justice.
Let the state trooper represent the state when the Feds go arrest this scumbag. He can join Obama at his next residence.
That would be a sight to behold for sure.
YEah, I’m sure Judge Robarts’ court would be much friendlier.
This Trooper was doing his duty, which I sadly know is a concept completely missing in many individuals today.
Yah,I know that the Left Coast courts are useless....I was thing about something further up.There's something breathtakingly despicable about a cop being punished for attempting to enforce the law.
ICE picked him up at the scene of the collision ... how much troopers can do to help federal immigration officials,”
= = =
Trooper was saving WA state a lot of time and money.
So he’s helping WA, not the Feds.
Simple, give him a new job... as a Federal Marshall .
This guy was wanted on a felony warrant.
Any LEO, local, state, or federal would be expected to place him under arrest.
Fire the head of that department and replace him with the trooper. He’s obviously more qualified.
And people wonder why I only want to keep my 19676 Chevy Dually 1 ton truck & my 1979 Buick station wagon.
I will be driving STEEL & WEIGHT & they will be in plastic cars-—I can buy alot of gas for the cost of just one emergency room visit.
I have the ‘law of gross tonnage’ on my side.
1976 Chevy truck-—with almost 350,000 miles on it, BTW.
