The DNC leak was likely an insider (Seth Rich) and that’s why the DNC refused to let the FBI examine the servers.
But why the Russian Conspiracy Theory?
That was done to access the FISA courts. Without some international involvement, Obama (via Lynch/DOJ) would have had to go to the regular federal court process to obtain a signed order allowing the wiretaps.
The Russian Conspiracy Theory allowed Obama to go to FISA and then go back again.
The infamous tarmac convo between Lynch and Clinton wasn’t just to let Bill know the investigation against Hillary would die (no indictment) but likely to update him on the wiretaps. The Clinton internal polling was showing some cracks and this was the ace in the hole.
They figured they’d win and none of this would ever see the light or day.
This also tells us Trump and his team are squeaky clean. They had them tapped (phones) and bugged (Sessions Senate office for one, as reported today) and the best dirt they came up with was a conspiracy theory?
Trump tweeting it and the Obama camp knee jerk ‘non denial denial’ now puts the Obama team credibility in question when Trump declassifies the FISA warrant (which he can do unilaterally).
Schumer realizes this and he refused to answer (it’s top secret, he said on Face the Nation, he can’t deny or confirm).
Pelosi said Obama didn’t order it, but if the DOJ did that has nothing to do with Obama. ?? His handpicked attorney general (Lynch) doing it has nothing to do with Obama?
There are allegations in the application for the FISA. Dems seem to be betting Trump doesn’t want those allegations seen.
But what can it be that we haven’t already seen through various leaks?

Yes, I think the Russian story was invented to get the wiretaps, which would win the election, and the Russian story could just then evaporate.
Except they lost the election.
So, now, the Russian story had to be made to bear more weight than it could. And, at that, it came close to working.
Now (hopefully) Trump will use the powers of his office to get it all on the record. We do not know how much fake evidence was presented to the FISA court, or how much was created before 11:59 am on 1/20/17. That remains to be seen.
I wish I trusted the congressional GOP more than I do.
