It’s not because New England imports too much electricity from the spot market (17%). Calif. has the highest import rate (almost all) and Virginia is second at @ 50%. The problem in NE, as well as many other states, is the lack of permit approval for natural gas fracking, resource extraction, substations and pipelines for distribution. In short, too many EPA rules that increase project costs and retard development of new energy sources. It’s only going to get worse due to the IoT and obsession with mobile devices: by 2020 60 billion devices will connect to the Internet, according to IDC, which means more 24-hour data centers consuming larger and larger quantities of baseload fuel. We need more fossil fuel development - “alternative” sources like solar, hydro etc. will never produce enough electron conversion to keep pace with soaring electricity consumption. Gut the EPA and set energy companies loose to drill, frack, build and distribute. Our energy grid is a national security issue and must be revamped with new technology and aggressive private investment.

Consider moving to Nebraska. It’s the only state where all electric companies are co-ops, and that keeps the costs among the lowest in the nation. Housing and car insurance are low-priced, too. Just don’t move to Omaha or Lincoln, and you’ll be surrounded by God-fearing conservatives who won’t bash in your car windows for having a Trump/Pence bumper sticker.

Sure, there’s tornado season, but every place has the possibility of natural disasters—hurricanes, floods, earthquakes. There’s fresh air, a low cost of living, friendly people, and a varied landscape where you can do just about any activity but skiing. Don’t listen to the liberals who gripe about it being boring fly-over country...as usual, they know nothing, because the only flat parts of the state are along Interstate 80. It’s hilly to the north (which is why the Irish settled there), more like rocky desert in the west, and you can enjoy the annual beauty of the wildfowl migration along the Platte River—which people come from all over the world to see.

Not trying to sound all touristy here, but we moved to Nebraska and we love it. I’d recommend it to anybody!

California is 18 cents kw in much of the state. Abundant oil and gas but the price rise was forced up as the democrats wanted people to switch to unreliable windmills and solar which cost way more money.

AT mt homes in California Electricity is about 18 cents per KWH, at my homes in AZ it is 8 cents per KWH.

Gasoline in CA is over $3, in AZ it is $2 ALL DAY LONG!
