This is a good thing.

We’re talking about two separate things. On the one hand, there is the policy discussion about immigration. I’m of the mind that legally they must go home if they aren’t legal and aren’t able to become legal.

Separate from that is the spiritual discussion. They need Christ, and they are turning to him. This is a good thing. If in the end they return to their home country, they will need God’s help making the move and holding their families together. And arriving there, finding work and a home, and then going on with their lives. Stay or go they need God’s help and guidance. They need to know him maybe in a way deeper than they have known him previously.

They always did need that, but usually it takes a crisis to get your attention.

And in the end, if they do have to leave, there is nothing wrong with a church helping them get reestablished in their home country.

= = =

If they really find Christ (and not just another form of ‘welfare’) He will guide and help them through their journey and life back in Mexico, if that happens.

If they are hearing about sin and grace, that’s good....but in many of these “new life” churches, it’s more about the band.
