In 2015 the Hearing Protection Act, which would deregulate suppressors and remove a $200 per unit ATF tax, was introduced into the House. Since then, a few different versions have been up for consideration. Now that Republicans are the majority in Congress and with a Republican sitting in the White House, the bill has a decent chance of passing.
Not surprisingly, gun control zealots are opposed to the bill for all the wrong reasons. On Tuesday, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand falsely claimed witnesses can't hear gun shots that come from suppressed firearms and argued deregulating this piece of hardware would make it more difficult for law enforcement to solve crimes.

These claims are of course totally false. Suppressors, also known as "silencers," don't completely eliminate the sound of a gun shot. Instead, suppressors bring down the sound to levels that don't damage hearing. They also limit recoil. There is nothing quiet about a suppressor, they simply make a gun less loud.
Gillibrand was quickly confronted by the bill's original sponsor Congressman Jeff Duncan about her statements, who invited her to educate herself at the range.

Supersonic ammo is still hearing safe out of a suppressed firearm, and that is the point of this bill, TO PROTECT HEARING!
You have to understand some of the facts of life. Democrats are the only ones that truly understand firearms. That is why they are the only ones that promote “gun control.”
Democrats understand that firearms, by themselves are evil and can kill. That is why Firearms always need to be locked up, have small magazines (yes they are not clips), and be kept out of the hands of most people. (/sarcasm)
And exactly how have the laws making noise suppressors illegal (without special license) stopped the use of firearms by criminals and terrorists to commit murder and mayhem?
All it does is generate a small amount of revenue for the federal Government and prevent legal gun owners from having ready access to a simple device that can help reduce hearing loss.
Criminals and terrorists don’t seem care how much noise they make. In fact the noise works in their favor as it induces fear and terror.
And if they illegally use a gun to commit murder what is stopping them from using a noise suppressor?

No, they are actually MOST effective on rifles or handguns that are semi-auto, with locked slides, or better yet, closed and locked bolts, as in single shots. With revolvers, you see, some noise still comes out the barrel/cylinder gap. As well as the muzzle end of the suppressor.

Yup. Most do not understand that a bullet fired traveling >1,130 fps will make two sounds. One from the powder burn and the second breaking the sound barrier with a crack.
