President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that his administration will re-examine federal requirements governing the fuel efficiency of cars and trucks, moving forcefully against Obama-era environmental regulations that Trump says are stifling economic growth.

Trump revealed his plans during a speech at an automotive testing center near Detroit, where he also met with auto company executives and workers.

“This is going to be a new era for American jobs and job creation,” Trump said at a round-table meeting.

The EPA under Obama had promulgated a rule for cars and trucks requiring a fleet-wide average of 36 mpg in real-world driving by 2025. …

Detroit (and cities in Europe and Asia) just breathed a sigh of relief.

Excellent. Ditch CAFE. People should be able to buy the cars at prices the.y can afford, without government interference.

Repeal ALL “regulations”. No “phases”, just straight repeal and DO NOTHING.

When automobiles become more powerful and reach a sustainable ~10 mph, only then we will see the prices reach healthy levels. Sub $50/brl is just killing the domestic producers.

That means no more subsidies for those glorified rolling appliances called hybrids. Anything you plug to a wall using a socket is an appliance, not a car.

Just me, but I would have liked to have seen two-stroke diesel cars. Who needs spark plugs or even valves, eh? Regulations like this are what killed the two-stroke Detroit Diesel engines in trucks, buses and even railroad locomotives.

Just to be clear, the locomotives had EMD engines, but two stroke.

I hate being a skeptic on this but so far there have been a lot of reviews, re-examines, evaluating, looking into, all of this climate motivated BS but has there been any actual policy\regulation changes? Pretty sure tossing these impossible rules was a done deal last week now they are “reviewing” them
when are we going to start seeing actual changes? These last CAFE rules were done by Obongo with an EO so undo them.

If gubmint cars(flimsy tin cans) are forced to give 30 mpg, instead of 10 mpg, they are inherently costing the producers 66% less in revenue by slashing the demand by 2/3. Simple economics.

A mototcycle gets 56 mpg. No way a 3000 lb vehicle will ever get anyway near 56 mpg. Impossible requirement for auto manufacturers to meet.

Yup, ditch the CAFE standards and let the market elide what the auto companies will build. It’s called FREEDOM. Lincolns and Caddys were made extinct by the feral government. Maybe Trump can reverse that.

Exactly, if he doesn’t fix this we will be forced into $40,000 golf carts. CA will be a problem they will try to use thier exemption to hold the country hostage ther will be a couri fight but first he has to cancel Obongo’s EO.

I ride off road motorcycles, I’m pretty serious about it.

I’ve bought 4 bikes in 18 months. You’d not believe all the crap you have to do to make the bike run right because of the stupid EPA crap.

And guess what? After removing all the crap, the bike runs great, passes sound checks, and doesn’t pollute any more than before. It’s just pure nonsensical crap!

EVERYONE that is serious off road rips all that crap off. HEll, imagine the money some dork/dem owned business makes from that gimmicky epa junk?
