You have great rigs that I’m sure are premium and go through a lot of complex engineering to do what they do.
Obamandates force SUVs to give WAY MORE than 25mpg “in the next 5 years” or some crap like that. The future of non-small cars, if unchecked, will be in peril. So, everybody will either be riding tin cans (cheap) or highly complex engineered cars like yours.
Once these obamandates are repealed, car manufacturers can go back to basics.

Well, I’m a dyed in the wool IC engine guy (three Corvettes), but it’s a foolish person who discounts hybrid and electric vehicles. Their technology is in it’s infancy, so we can look forward to improvements in battery technology and perhaps changes in the way we generate electricity both of which will make pure electric cars more attractive. And FWIW, there is no dispute that the electric motor is a much, much better prime mover than the IC engine because it’s maximum available torque is at dead stop (why do you think all of today’s diesel locomotives use electric traction motors?). And the FWD Tesla will blow the doors of of just about anything with an IC engine in it today. 0-60 2.5 sec, 1/4 mile 11.50 at 117mph! That’s definitely not an “appliance!”

I have a friend who autocrosses his car so he has a five-point harness in the driver’s seat. He was written up by a cop because the setup isn’t DOT-Approved for a street-driven vehicle. Thankfully the court threw it out.
Getting rid of ethanol would be a start.

I saw a video years ago where a diesel BMW, in Europe, got far better mileage than the driver of the Toyota Pious. The hybrid driver was sweating his tail off and the Beamer driver was cool, comfortable and still ahead. We could have that Beamer, but it’s against the law to import one here.

Sounds great. Have you tried to change a head lamp on a late model car lately. That is bull crap. That should be a class action law suit under anti-trust that would bankrupt Toyota for good.
