President Trump did not extend his hand to shake German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s in a Friday Oval Office photo op, a courtesy he usually extends to foreign leaders visiting the white House.
Trump sat next to Merkel in front of a fireplace for the brief photo-op.
“Very good,” Trump said to assembled reporters when asked about what the two leaders discussed. “Lots of things.”
“Very good, thanks,” Merkel said in German.
But Trump hardly looked at Merkel and, when the photo op ended, didn’t move in for a handshake

I just saw Trump and Merkel shake hands as she exited her vehicle in front of the White House.
Old school manners requires the woman to extend her hand first....so the headline should be “Merkel Doesn’t Shake Hands with Trump.”
Something must have happened in the meeting, he wouldn’t even look at her and she was leaning in and he was looking away. He was furious about something.
The fact that he failed to Tweet anything in anticipation of the visit is telling in itself.

I no longer shake hands with anyone unless I’m agreeing to something...but I’m NOT a worLD leader...and Merkel’s dancing while on vacation video is what I see whenever she is present.
I had a feeling that their meeting wouldn’t go well. The German political establishment and state financed media have been extremely disdainful (and often dishonest) about Trump for almost two years now. You could also hardly find more enthusiastic globalists anywhere in the world. Add to that Frau Merkel’s love of Obama (even though he wiretapped her!), and it’s obvious that the Trump-Merkel relationship was always going to be antagonistic.
Considering the type of statements she and other German politicians have made about Trump, I suspect she tried to lecture him.
You are correct. Rules of etiquette require the gentleman to wait for the lady to offer her hand before a handshake. Very few “gentlemen” these days know that. Believe it or not I learned this in public grade school (a long time ago) but I doubt it is taught today, what with having to teach all about homosexuality and such they prpbably don’t have time for such things.
PDJT’s body language and tone screamed of it didn’t go well, or he is a better actor than Reagan. My guess, she came in “his house” and tried to beeotch slap him verbally, and German arrogance jokes aside, I’d bet a thick fat aged beef steak cooked to perfection on my grille that’s what happened. My guess is what she got back was like the 1812 Overture with live Cannons...
