Why was Israel flying over Syria in the first place? I assume it was in retribution for some attack of Assad on Israeli forces but I never heard of any provocation. What is going on there? I thought Trump was supposed to work out an agreement with Assad as part of the Syrian peace process. Things are still down the rabbit hole there, it appears.

The strikes are against Hezbollah, which has been firing Iranian supplied rockets into Israel.
Hezbollah is at times a loose cannon, and Assad needs to realize that they can thus be a liability.

Likely to prevent the delivery of advanced weapon systems to Hezbollah.

Israel claims to have bombed weapons going to Hezbollah in Syria. Syria retaliated.

This goes on frequently, but this time Russian summoned Israel to explain and I supposed to express its displeasure.
