“Many of the existing statin-based arguments against lipid-lowering therapy will apply.”

What arguments are those? I ask because my cardiologist wants to double my Crestor dosage because he wants to lower my LDL. On the other hand my HDL is uncommonly high and my primary says I shouldn’t worry about it.

You might want to check with the FDA

There have been rare post-marketing reports of cognitive impairment (such as memory loss, forgetfulness, amnesia, memory impairment, and confusion) associated with statin use.

and

Statins are typically very well tolerated. Two risks that patients may be aware of are muscle-related complaints and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes

Sounds like your primary is more informed...I’m told by Dr. Jonathan Wright, Tahoma Clinic, that it’s the RATIOS that matter, not the totals. You may want to do a little more research.
