Think a chaplain is a cream-puff? Guess again.

I noticed that this guy seems old to be a captain. He must be prior enlisted, that’s all good.

Some Chaplains join older. Most denominations require a Chaplain to have been a pastor. Some move from the Guard or Reserve to active duty. Much different entry requirements.

But have to say every Chaplain I served with in 25 years of service did a great job keeping up with the physical requirements. They never complained about running or wearing a ruck.

At Airborne school the Chaplain was first out the door on our first jump.

Chaplain’s tend to be much older than their commissioned. The military requires Bachelor degree, a master degree, and full ordination. On top of that most denominations require years of experience. So, generally you’d be thinking about 30 before they’ve met the requirements. In my case, I did have prior enlisted service, so with all the other requirements I wasn’t back on active duty til I was 33.

Somewhere upthread someone seemed to indicate this calain is Lutheran Miss. Synod. If so, he would have had to have gone through all those years I mentioned above.
