When you embarrass the boss publicly

Donald Trump is not "the boss". Congressmen serve and are answerable to the people of their districts. The President is their equal, not their superior.

We have a GOP president in the WH after 8 terrible years under Obama. Given the current demographic trends fueled by mass immigration and minority birthrates, Trump could be the last GOP President for a very long time. The Dems have won the popular vote six out of the last seven elections. Obama and Hillary had the three highest vote totals in American history.

Trump has the veto pen. If the GOP controlled Congress wants to pass legislation, they will have to work with Trump or face the prospect of Trump working with Democrats and some Reps to pass his agenda. Some people are more equal than others. We saw that with Obama who used the pen and telephone to run the country by Executive Order.

Why did the GOP-controlled Congress make a fool out of Trump handing him a terrible defeat? Trump did his part by bringing over 120 GOP Congressmen to his office and by holdings several rallies to push the bill. It was a major investment of his reputation and credibility. The ensuing defeat could have been avoided if the GOP had the ability to reach a consensus in private instead of the public food fight that led to this debacle.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I get the feeling some here have the mistaken notion that the presidency is like being CEO of a company and that all branches of government are subservient to the presidents agenda and that is simply not the case.

The president is constitutionally tasked with enforcing the laws that congress passes not mandating which laws get passed.

Ideally the legislative and executive branches are like-minded and have the same goals but that isn’t always the case.
