Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in an interview to be broadcast early Thursday said he does not want to work with Democrats on healthcare legislation, breaking with President Trump's recent comments.
I dont want that to happen, Ryan told Norah ODonnell on "CBS This Morning."
I want a patient-centered system," he added. "I dont want government running healthcare. The government shouldnt tell you what you must do with your life, with your healthcare. We should give people choices.
Ryan added GOP infighting may drive Trump to partner with Democrats over members of his own party.
"[If] the Republican Congress allows the perfect to be the enemy of the good, I worry we'll push the president into working with Democrats. He's been suggesting that as much," he said, adding merely retooling ObamaCare is "hardly a conservative thing."

Things that make you go hmmmmm...
Then get to work and do what the people want in the bill.
Things that make me want to tweet....
<>Exit time for Paul Ryan.
It’s a warning to RINOs to work with conservatives.
Fits in with Trump’s warning today to conservatives to work with the RINOs.
They’ve got to work together for him to succeed.
He just licks his finger and sticks it in the air.
Mr. Ryan says, I want a patient-centered system,” he added. “I dont want government running healthcare.”
If his statement is a true reflection of his healthcare philosophy, why didn’t Mr. Ryan simply resubmit the straight repeal of Obamacare bill vetoed by Obama?
But Paul, isn’t that what you’ve wanted all along?
Being a bought and paid for “Pet” of the Democrat Party?
That’s what everybody else thinks, including The President.
Or do you just not like having your motivations unmasked?
Well President Trump, who’s in charge here?
They never intended the AHCA to be a real health care reform bill. They just needed to pass it because it had a CBO forecast of $1.2 trillion in Federal savings over ten years. The forecast was probably complete B.S. but it would have served as the basis for a major tax reform package.
I’m with Ryan on this. The ‘RATS have one “healthcare” objective. Single payer. Allowing them into this battle will only result in them painting all Republicans as Hitler and Satan if they don’t get it.
Trump is so much smarter than these people it’s scary.
Obamacare: The federal government decides what ought to be in a health insurance policy, and doles out welfare to cover it through premium subsidies
Ryancare: The federal government decides what ought to be in a health insurance policy, and doles out welfare to cover it through refundable tax credits.
See, they’re two completely different things, folks!
I hardly think that President Trump is going to forget the millions and millions of people who put him in office’ largely based on the repeal and replacement of Obamacare as the ultimate goal. That being said, isn’t the way our government supposed to work is by having a consensus ideally with both sides involved, having meaningful dialogue and discussion and informed decisions inviting all to be present at the table?? Again, I don’t think our president is jumping ship, I think he is simply trying to get something done and being an adult about it and not a petulant pissed-off child who, when they don’t get their own way, they take their ball and go home! That is what we have seen year after year in Washington. New sheriff in town is right and I applaud his efforts. I hope they work out... this is the way government is supposed to run.
...and yet, you insist on "fixing it". Repeal Obamacare and walk away.
Running on instinct.
