LOL, good thing I find it interesting, because if it weren’t, I would likely pull any remaining hair I have out of my head!
I have seen a few lectures on this, and yes...we use a variety of mechanisms to overcome ambient noise and interpret what people are saying to us.
Pretty amazing, but then again, we were designed pretty well, except for the spine and the knee designs, which I think God contracted out to the same heavenly designer who programmed the road crossing program for squirrels! I suspect he had the same designer, and after all the spine and knee problems humans had after...ahem...”go-live”, he gave this good-hearted and well-intentioned designer one more chance to show his heavenly programming skills with the squirrel road crossing program.
Needless to say, we see the results of THAT hot mess of squirrel programming on a daily basis!
Hmmm...is that Grant or Sherman? Whoever it is, he knows how to call in CAS!
No doubt — spine and knee design limitations are becoming apparent me these days. :)
While waiting for jury selection a couple of years back, I read an Nat Geo magazine that discussed this very thing. According to the article, it is a design compromise that allows us to walk upright and eventually everyone will have “degenerative” spine issues.
Human birth suffers from the same “design compromise” and it is why it is such a difficult process for women.
Heh, there are a lot of women out there who would second that view!
