That’s terrible.
such sorrow
knew from the pics 13 died due to his negligence
It was horrible and SO unnecessary!
It was an accident.
Poor bastard will have 13 marks on his head for the rest of his life.
Weak lesson for most
It was a totally preventable accident. We had even just passed the law making texting and driving illegal.
I think he should be prosecuted, and I’m sure he will be.
That’s a silly reason, IMO. That shouldn’t matter one bit to the driver’s guilt or innocence. Crazy.
And condolences for your loss. Very sad.
I am driving that exact vehicle now but I was unaware of that feature since I don’t text while driving and am at most a low level text person.
So sorry for your loss...and pain.
I know some folks who just purchased the vehicle (12 miles opn it) and they said the vehicle automatically adjusted itself to their cell phone and would no longer drive unless placed in park if they attempted to respond to a cell phone call or text.
I disagree vehemently. You appear to equate a new law with the social education effort required to tell people that the existing law covers their current behavior.
Prosecute the negligent manslaughter charge and publicize the reason. Lawmakers are very ill equipped to understand the nuances of what they are doing.
But I guess if one can afford and new model they can afford a second phone, just for the car.☺ It seems that design would be easy to crack. I dunno.

Then you misunderstand me. I am saying that all the current laws on DUI, DWI, etc should apply to texting. But if that becomes impossible to enforce due to an inability to find a blood alcohol level equivalent, then the law will need to be amended to include texting.
After all, the BAL is there because people may have a drink at dinner and need to drive home. But, there is NO reason to use a cell phone while driving. Humans did it for 100 years and we still had friends, girlfriends, spouses, and businesses.
People will not stop as long as they tell themselves, “I can drive and text. It’s those other people who can’t handle it.”
The Constitution is not a suicide pact and it has already been established in many precedents that driving is not a right.
How often to do you text or read your phone while driving?
How horrible - so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding.
I do not text and drive, nor call and drive except when receiving a call on my headset.
12 counts of first degree murder...death penalty!
What about passengers?
And if a vehicle program shuts down the drivers phone which the vehicle is programed to and while the vehicle is in drive, it would stop a driver from using that phone.
But what would stop the driver from just purchasing a 2nd phone for the car?
I don’t know of a perfect solution, and there are people who will finesse any law/rule. And, there are enough idiots to negate any constraint. But, if new technologies would cut the horrific stupidity tragedies by a reasonable amount I would be in favor of it.
I agree, but the example I gave tends to confirm they’re going to have a tough time finding a solution that can’t be easily cracked.
