Former New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman is warning that President Donald Trump's "unprecedented" proposed budget cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, which she used to run, pose a "great danger to Americans' lives."
Whitman, a Republican who served as governor from 1994 to 2001, made the declarations in an op-ed she wrote that was published by The Atlantic magazine on Friday.
"Practically speaking, funding for climate-change research would be axed, public-health programs would be effectively defunded, state environmental programs would be closed, and regional projects would end," Whitman writes. "Make no mistake: Human health would be endangered."
Among her many arguments, Whitman said the "greatest threat the new budget poses" is to several "vital bodies of water," including cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the elimination of funding to the Chesapeake Bay Program.
Trump's budget is only a proposal. It needs to be passed by both houses of Congress and will likely see changes before it is finalized.
"As Congress considers its own spending proposals to counter the president's, lawmakers must reject Trump's cuts to the EPA -- for the sake of all Americans' health," Whitman concludes.

And some around here want more of them and fewer conservatives.......
Few politicians epitomize a Country Club Republican as well as Lady Christie Todd Whitman.

Christie Whitman doesn’t give a crap about the FACT that enviro laws have taken food directly out of the mouths of poor children because the enviro laws have raised the prices of everything
Hey Christie Whitman- Why don’t you care about poor children?
Good thing she dropped out of the race. I don’t think she was that good of a CEO.
I didn’t know this loser bitch was still alive!
Global Communists works for me.
Yeah, I know who it was - ol' Snakehead hisself, fresh off of the Perot gambit and resulting Clinton win, jumping in to help one of the NRA's biggest enemies of that period. Of course I was paying attention to those vermin. Plus, I was living in south Louisiana at the time and the newspapers followed Carville's exploits.
While a federal watchdog like the EPA is arguably a good idea, patriots are reminded of the following.
The states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for environmental protection purposes.
In other words, the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress wrongly established the constitutionally undefined EPA with stolen state powers imo.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
So with all due respect to Gov. Whitman, instead of politicking politically correct excuses in defense of a source of unconstitutional federal funding, she needs to do the following.
Whitman needs to work with Pres. Trump, Congress and the states to propose a Trump / Whitman environmental protections amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify the amendment then Trump and Whitman will be heroes and Congress will have the constitutional authority that it has always needed in order to regulate, tax and spend in the name of environmental protections.
Whitman is a megaloser. No one cares what she might spew about anything.
She’s a leftist who pretends to be a Republican.
That idiot was never relevant.
Christie Wit-less is apparently out from under her NYC 911 toxic cloud!
