What Clinton and Pence have in common: Their marriages are our favorite soap operas
The Washington Post ^ | March 31, 2017 | Alyssa Rosenberg

For Americans, the first couple, or even the second couple, for that matter, offers a lens through which we work out our own complex feelings about the institution of marriage and the role of women. In their first hundred days, President Trump and Vice President Pence have given us the ultimate contrast: a couple who don’t live together and a couple who stay unusually — perhaps unnervingly — close.   The Trump and Pence marriages represent the jumble sale that is Republican values in 2017, from the thrice-married big-city philanderer with a habit of viewing women as ornaments to the conservative evangelical Christian who seems to simultaneously respect women and fear their sexual wiles. Still, there may be more to learn by comparing the Trump and Pence marriages not with each other but with those of the Democrats who preceded them.

This has got to be the most stupid, dishonest hateful article ever. It is dishonest and mean for the Washington Post.

It is an attack on Trump and Pence's marriages.

It praises Obama's marriage as ideal.

From the article:

"the Obamas’ marriage was the one to emulate"

"the couple(Obama's) so swooningly romantic, and so focused on the first lady’s sex appeal"

The author thinks Melania is unattractive and the wookie is sexy and beautiful.

I cannot express the contempt I feel for all journalists. They are all mentally unbalanced and a great many of them have very low IQs.

And they think they’re smarter and better than everybody else.

[spit!]

I never saw Obama swoon over Michelle - the quintessential angry black woman. He’s got to be the most a-sexual guy in the WH since James Buchanan.

This is the same kind of crap that made the WP swoon over that lying photo of the Clintons dancing on the beach in their (yuck!) bathing suits.

Pence doesn’t want to be around women because he knows he’s a target the way Herman Cain, Trump, Justice Thomas and all the other Republican guys who were being lured into honey traps. He’s smart.

How bizarre to the liberals in the media — a man that loves his wife.

Pence and his wife compared to Bill and Hillary Clinton?

Well, comparing wholesome to Satanic would be a wholesome comparison.

“Look Children. There, model yourself after them. Don’t grow up the be like the Satanic Clintons.”

How the hell is the Pence marriage a ‘soap opera’? It looks rock solid from here. My husband doesn’t go out on dates with other women either. We never talked about it. He just doesn’t put himself in stupid situations.

Pence is wise enough to realize that a man in his position is “gossip fodder” as he labors in a position that brings him in natural contact with many women.
If a REPUBLICAN high office holder (maybe not THAT high) is seen at dinner with a variety of good looking women, the MSM is sure to somehow come up with a half dozen or more pictures of the events. Instantly the cell phone originated photos are headline news and a 24/7 scandal in making.
Of course, if the office holder spells his last name so it ends with a (D), this is not a problem.
Also, maybe Pence and the Mrs. really do like each other.
It’s been known to happen.

Even the headline admits that this bit of “fake news” comes right from their imaginations and nowhere else.

We see fatuous stuff from the Compost every day but yeah, this is extraordinary. Image and video hosting by TinyPic Remember in the months leading up to the election, occasionally the mask would drop from the Clinton machine and they would say stuff like, "If we don't win, we're busted. We'll just have to win then." Deja vu you.

Oh good grief. Somebody had to make up something to write about - the more mindlessly provocative the better.

This has got to be the most stupid, dishonest hateful article ever.

Leftists are stupid and hateful - and the public statements are always pure propaganda done with a political calculation. We won't find out soon, but in a couple decades, when those presently protecting the Obama regime power are gone, I am sure we will learn that the Obamas' marriage has its twists, turns and lies.

Moreover, since we are talking about Pence's comments, EVERY divorced woman I know would have loved to have her husband vow to never have dinner alone with another woman, or drink in their presence. that's because nearly every divorce I have seen is due to INFIDELITY and/or ALCOHOL.

Not all WaPo readers are radical leftists. I had to copy one response, and post it, so I could have it for the future

The right of every child to be born to mature, responsible, committed parents, nevertheless, exceeds all other human and civil rights issues in the West by a wide margin. Nothing comes even close.

Traditional Christian culture taught there was a moral dimension in sex because it ultimately involves the most innocent and helpless members of the human family. States traditionally had laws penalizing adultery and fornication.

Marriage was something much larger than mere social ceremony between two people interested each other; it was a vow, a dedication and commitment to posterity.

The cultural revolution of the 60s, which was about separating rights and privileges from responsibility in the pursuit of the self: the hedonistic philosophy that happiness is found in the direct pursuit of pleasure and the self. The ultimate extension of this philosophy, for many, is the escape from reality of mere animal existence with substance abuse.

Thus the most innocent and helpless members of the human family suffer capital punishment for being the sin of sexual licentiousness, a particularly cruel and unusual form of capital punishment: a tube rammed into the skull, brains sucked out, and then dismemberment (late-term abortion technique).

perhaps unnervingly — close

WTF!?!?!?! Now, a husband and wife staying together is "unnerving?" These people are nuts.

And is truly in love with his wife. He treats her and their marriage like my husband has ours for nearly 30 years. I’m the most blessed woman, with the most loving, kind husband who has put me first every day we’ve been together. So I understand exactly about Mike and Karen Pence. Most happy for them.
