What is weird about him attending 2 churches? This is very common with spouses of two different denominations.
And why would you assume he doesn’t hold solid Christian values? Was he ever General Council for Planned Parenthood, or Emily’s List, or the DNC?

I think the “weirdness” is that, IIRC, the minister of his Episcopal church is a lesbian woman.
Evangelical Christians who follow the Bible strictly have a problem with both “lesbian” and “woman minister”.
