Arguably we got oil when we needed it.

Not efficiently, and yes, we created, directly or indirectly, the worst threats over there—from Al-Qaeda to ISIS, Saudi Arabia’s wahabi export and Iran.

Oh, and trillions in arms sales. Not admirable or really defendable, but we had motivations that went beyond our Cold War proxy fights.

I think it's worth studying how the Chinese get resources from Third World countries, and model our approach after theirs.

They don't seem to suffer any consequences with terrorism or immigration.

The Chinese are in Afghanistan mining the heck out of that place for minerals.

There was a Chinese mining operation just a few miles from my outpost when I was there in 2012.

The Taliban never bothered those guys.

Same with Africa. The Chinese are colonizing Africa like crazy. Extracting valuable natural resources.

No. But what do you think he’s doing over there?

Be careful how you discuss this issue./ sarc

Bringing in the notion that Israel is involved in the “Arab Spring” or Syrian Civil War will lead to the tag “anti-Semite” being pinned on you.

I identify as a Christian-Zionist so I’m all for Israel all the way to the notion of Israel defending itself and fighting its own wars.

Secular politicians in Israel are another thing and not a good one like secular politicians are in other countries.

They sprung Oslo and accommodation of the PLO back in the 1990’s, then Ariel Sharon forced Jews out of their homes just over a decade ago in Gaza.

If the Arab Spring-Syrian Civil War is quid pro quo Saudi-Gulf Arab-Israeli operation to hurt and isolate Iran, do we move on from taking out Iran (an enemy of Saudis and Israelis alike) to the “two-state solution” involving the Palestinians.

That will force a lot more Jews out of their homes in Judaea and Samaria I am certain, a very “anti-Semitic” operation if you ask me.

Glenn Beck became interested in the Syrian mess a few years back before his “Never Trump” days and said at that time when he was concerned about Christians fleeing persecution:
“I support Israel but I do not support the people who support Israel”. Haven’t heard anything lately from his mouth about that maybe someone is sending him $$$$$.

I could only guess. None of my guesses would have anything to do with a gas attack in Syria, though.

I agree. Its false flag.

Obama’s policy was to back the Turks and Saudis, even if that meant getting in bed with Al Qaeda and ISIS. Almost none of the reporting coming out of Syria under Obama was true. Almost everything was mirror-image of the reporting.

The very same people who have mounted a slow-motion coup d’état against Trump here are still involved in the war there. They intend to drive a wedge between Trump and the Russians, preserve our relationship with Erdogan and his policies, and eventually drive Trump from office.

It will take quite a bit to convince me of any of this.

In any case, I agree with Trump’s original policy. Kill ISIS. Get out.

FWIW: Assad still has large quantities of Saran gas precursor chemicals he has refused to turn over. It ais possible that with all the shifting lines that anti-Assad or ISIS elements captured some quantity of these chemicals or as someone said a storage site was bombed.

Assad himself has nothing to gain by using gas and everything to lose. I would imagine that his use of gas would be large scale across a broad front, not just one building.

You got the last part wrong
Turkey our ally aided ISIS and helped them smuggle oil
Erdogan’s son got rich from this
The flow was only disrupted when Russia entered SYRIA and started bombing oil tankers

On your second point Hafez Al assad may have been aware of the Beirut barracks bombing but it was ordered and executed fromTehran - Admiral James Lyon has spoken about how the Navy had developed a counter strike but Caspar Weinberger nixed it and persuaded Reagan too

Who benefits? I find it hard to believe Assad would do this when he is already winning against ISIS/rebels. The ones who benefit from this are parties that want Assad out. This would include the neocons here, the Saudis, Turkey etc (ie. the folks supporting ISIS). Trump had it right about Syria when he was campaigning. Clinton/McCain/Obama/neocons/Soros (et al) had it wrong.

Has Trump been given bad intelligence to set the table? Why are we on such a hair trigger?

I agree, something not right here. As others pointed out there did not appear to be any reason for Syria to do this.

So until more info,

Why would Assad help ISIS, a group fighting to overthrow him?

Yes, not only against the President, but for the crazy Senator from Arizona.

The political establishment would like to force Trump to adopt the Arkansas Medusa’s foreign policy, just as they tried to get him to support Ryanocare. No sale on both counts.

Um...how is that kid in the center dead? Looks to be faking it. In fact, the entire scene could be staged.

A week after Tillerson says USA policy in no longer the removal of Assad, Assad launches a gas attack. Sure, I believe that./s

Actually, Syria’s long been known to possess chemical weapons and it’s also known to have accepted Iraq’s chemical weapons precursors and equipment when the Russians helped transport them to Syria in advance of the US invasion of Iraq [see Jack Shaw’s testimony].

Actually at Russia's suggestion, Syria voluntarily got rid of its chemical weapon stockpiles a few years ago under UN supervision. Please adjust your story line to include those facts.

Am I alone when I say that I don't give a crap if Assad used chemical weapons?

No, you are not. Our so-called arab "friends" today will be our sworn enemies tomorrow. Keep in mind that on 9/11, nineteen of our Saudi "friends" drove two planes into the Twin Towers, one into The Pentagon and murdered all the people on Flight 93.

Kill 'em all and let GOD sort 'em out!

Hugh Hewitt is trashing Rex Tillerson today, suggesting he is not up to the job. He wondered if Pres. Trump was going to replace him soon. He cited “rumors” as his rationale.
Hewitt is also calling for the President to bomb Assad’s palaces... “he has to do something”
Hewitt is moving quickly into the Glenn Beck arena.
Just amazing.
