Man Removed From Jet Is Kentucky Doctor With Criminal Record

The man dragged from a full United Express flight by airport police in Chicago is a Kentucky physician who was convicted more than a decade ago of felony charges involving his prescribing of drugs.

But while the passenger's unflattering history quickly became the focus of attention, there's no indication that his past influenced how he was treated or that the airline or police were aware of his background. And it's unlikely that officials would have known anything about him other than basic identifying information such as his name and address, if that.

A person with knowledge of the Sunday evening flight who was not authorized to publicly release the information told The Associated Press that the passenger was David Dao, 69, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He did not return messages from the AP.

While screaming can be heard on the videos, nowhere is Dao seen attacking the security officers. In fact, he appears relatively passive both when he was dragged down the aisle of the jet and when he is seen standing in the aisle later saying quietly, "I want to go home, I want to go home."

His past does not in any way excuse the actions of United Airlines.

Apparently there are many doctors in Kentucky that prescribe drugs in an illegal manner.

However, that has nothing to do with his being dragged off that United flight.

They did nothing wrong. The passenger was not cooperative, so they called the authorities, THOSE are the people who might have gone too far.

My stepson and his girlfriend, back in their early 20’s, would play a game called, “we’re not leaving”.

They’d go to a bar in trendy Capital Hill in Seattle and sit there and never order anything and see how long it took before they were physically removed. I don’t get it, but they seemed to think it was fun.

They grew up and have been married a few years.

He knows how to put on an act.

Maybe he was looking for a payout...but he did not deserve to be dragged from the plane.

And this is justification to beat the sh*t out of someone and drag them off a plane?

Actually it looks like they did do something wrong. According to what I’m reading elsewhere United has the right to bump passengers BEFORE they board the plane but not AFTER they board the plane.

His past does not in any way excuse the actions of United Airlines.

Actions? Like calling the cops when the dude wouldn't leave?

It ain't his airplane and flipping out about it gets him what he got.

It will be an interesting case to follow.

A. You must follow the orders of a flight crew.

B. Does that give the flight crew the right to call in police thugs to kick your ass and drag you off the plane?

Good way to play the follow up game- “we’re leaving in an ambulance/cop car”.

Convicted of a felony, fraudulently writing prescriptions, he also sexually harassed a male employee and traded drugs for sex.

No way should he have had his medical license re-instated and no way should he be any where near a prescription pad.

Dao had become sexually interested in a patient and hired the patient as his office manager. That man later said he quit his job because Dao “pursued him aggressively” and arranged to provide him with prescription drugs in exchange for sex.

What difference does his past make? It could have been you or me, or anybody, they did that to.

The bumping practice should be illegal.

His old criminal record has no bearing on what happened on the plane. The fact that they are bringing it up is silly. Having said that, I don’t agree with how he acted either. Both United and he could have handled this more like adults.

There is a video missing...I saw a piece....he was running up and down screaming "I want to go home. I want to go home."

One might think he was on drugs and really whacked out when watching that piece of video.

It would make an interesting case..except I don’t think we will get to see it.

I think UA will settle.
