Trump's comments during the presidential campaign that NATO was an obsolete organization made a lot of sense to me--after all, the Soviet Union is gone and NATO was formed to defend against the Soviet threat. To see Pres. Trump reversing this position is disheartening to a degree. The NATO charter says "an attack on one member is an attack on all", or words to that effect, which made sense to hold back the Soviet Union, but the Soviet Union is no more. Do you think NATO is still needed and if so, should the charter be updated?
