In the days after Donald Trump was inaugurated in January, liberals in America were depressed, despondent, and asking themselves what to do next. David Nir, the political director of the liberal blog Daily Kos, had an answer and that answer was Jon Ossoff.
Nir and the Daily Kos team had been crunching the numbers from Trump’s election since the day after it happened. Which districts did Trump underperform in? Where were the opportunities for Democrats? They quickly noticed that in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, which Mitt Romney won by 23 points in 2012, Trump had won by just a point and a half. Could Rep. Tom Price be vulnerable the next time around?
But within weeks, the Price seat was not just a target for 2018, it became the prize in a 2017 special election, after Trump tapped Price as his secretary of Health and Human Services to oversee the dismantling of Obamacare. In the minds of progressives, the Price seat was not just open, it was ground zero for the Trump resistance.
“No one wants to wait until 2018 — or 2020 — to fight back against Donald Trump,” Nir wrote in a post on Daily Kos at the end of January. “The good news is, we don’t have to.”
Nir then went on to introduce the site’s 3 million readers to Ossoff, a then-29-year-old former congressional staffer who had jumped into the special election in early January.
Even though there were three other Democrats in the race, Nir announced that Daily Kos would break with their usual policy and endorse Ossoff, who had already been endorsed by Georgia Rep. John Lewis. Crucially, Nir also provided a link to an ActBlue page where Daily Kos readers across the country could send donations to the unknown candidate in suburban Atlanta.

Ossoff’s ads in the race didn’t mention any kind of idea of anti-Trump backlash, nor Ossoff as a liberal. I’m sure all of that was saved in the case his lies actually worked and he managed to get 50%.
So in a field of 18 he did garner some support.
Now, 1-1, we’ll see just what he has...
I am guessing he goes down at least 60-40...

It is still way too soon to be claiming canonization for this Jon Ossoff in the panoply of saints for the ideological Left.
He has selected a very difficult venue to even get to an elected position, a slot that even if he should survive to the actual election to the post, cannot be long held, as he would surely be swept away in the 2018 midterms.
In 2008, he would have been a runaway favorite, but of course, he was still way too young then.
His beard is studying to be a doctor, so that’s why he doesn’t live in GA 6. Yeah, sure…..
In GA, the signs don't have to identify the party of the candidate. With all the money that flowed into his coffers, it's gratifying to know that it was wasted.
I think that once the Cobb and Fulton voters realize they've been duped into supporting a (D)ead party candidate, many will forget a protest vote and vote for the (R) candidate. Just my $.02.

What I’d like to know is why did Trump so underperform in this district compared to milt. Surely it is not a heavy Mormon district, so what happened?
Across the nation Trump over performed in blue collar areas and under performed in yuppie territory. Without knowing too much about this district I’d guess it’s that kind of district.
Also this district has been trending Dem for years.

Early life and family
Born in Atlanta, Ossoff was raised by his parents in Northlake, an unincorporated community in Georgia’s 6th congressional district.[7] Ossoff’s mother Heather Fenton, an Australian immigrant,[1] co-founded NewPower PAC, an organization that works to elect women to local office across Georgia.[8][9] His father, who is of Russian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish descent, owns a specialist publishing company.[1] Ossoff was raised Jewish.[10]
Ossoff attended the Paideia School, a small private school in Atlanta.[1] While in high school, he interned for Georgia congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis.[1]
Education
Ossoff attended Georgetown University from 2005 to 2009, earning a bachelor’s degree in the School of Foreign Service. He attended classes taught by former secretary of state Madeleine Albright and former Israeli ambassador to the United States Michael Oren.[11][12]
Ossoff went on to earn his Master of Science degree from London School of Economics in 2013,[11][12] where he wrote his thesis on trade relations between the United States and China.[13]
Career
Ossoff worked as a national security staffer and aide to Rep. Hank Johnson for five years where he drafted and managed legislative initiatives that passed the House and Senate.[7][14] He had top-secret clearance for five months.[15]
Since 2013, he has been managing partner and CEO of Insight TWI, a small business which produces investigations targeting corrupt officials and organized crime for international news organizations.[16] In 2016, Ossoff was an executive producer for a documentary film by Insight TWI for BBC Three; the film exposed atrocities committed by ISIL in Iraq.[17]
