Sounds like one of the last serious centers of science and math education is being wrecked by the “diversity police.”

Diversity drones demanding that a great institution conform to their preferences and whiny “needs”.... they can’t make it under the existing standards so everything has to be weakened and modified to suit them.

Eroding standards caused by the diversity mafia, so of course the answer is to further erode standards until the diversity mafia can be satisfied (which will be never).
