Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly says the Trump administration hopes to follow through on President Donald Trump's promise to build a wall along the border between the United States and Mexico before the fall.
"We hope to begin construction by the end of the summer," he told CNN's Kate Bolduan Friday on "At This Hour." "Clearly, we're not going to build a wall in an afternoon."
Kelly and Attorney General Jeff Sessions are touring the border and met Thursday with law enforcement personnel from several federal agencies at a federal building in El Paso, Texas, which includes immigration courts and is blocks away from a detention facility. They spoke to CNN from San Diego on Friday.
Kelly said he is talking to local and state lawmakers willing to share their views on the best way to build the wall.
While lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have criticized the plan to have taxpayers fund the wall, Sessions said he believes Congress will eventually support funding the project.
"I think Congress will provide the necessary funds and there will be ways to fund this wall," he said. "I believe we've got to do it. It's the final step in moving us from the success we've had so far to a permanent system where we can be proud of in ending the lawlessness."(continued)

Why take a chance on Congress wimping out?
There have been several suggestions how to raise the money, such as tacking on additional taxes/fees on dollars wired to mexico for example.
That should have started January 21st.
Trump should start a go fund me page for the border wall.
They had better have a good start on a real wall soon or the 2018 election won’t go so well for republicans.

Real border security, and the nice folks that made it necessary will reimburse us whether they like it or not.
This is what Trump meant when he said Mexico will pay.
What are they going to do? Invade us?

A few hundred miles well placed (in the urban areas) would make a huge difference in illegal immigration (drugs are a different story).
I was struck that the first two phases of the plan, seemed quite well studied, covering a few hundred miles in those urban areas, whereas Phase Three seemed like a simple catch all for the rest of the border.
So far, the contracting effort has been humming along on a fast track. I do expect to see construction starting up this Summer/Fall, and speeding up as the vendors tool up/staff up.
The only real constraint is funding.
they should use money and assets captured during drug busts to pay that wall and they should go after cartel assets. Those guys have billions buried in the desert. make them give it up.

Sessions has already started the ramp-up on the judges. First, he sent many on TDY, for you non-military types that is temporary duty assignment, to the areas needed to handle the load while new judges are being retained.

If it is a second offense it becomes a serious matter. We need to keep track of how many times they try it.
For the first improper entry offense, the person can be fined (as a criminal penalty), or imprisoned for up to six months, or both. For a subsequent offense, the person can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years, or both. (See 8 U.S.C. Section 1325, I.N.A. Section 275.)

Now sure what the rules are on such but if it can be done it should be. Give them a meal
and an understanding if caught again on the USA side of the border without property papers
then they will spend some time at hard labor, ie Cool Hand Luke and Paul Newman.
