If you look very closely, the alleged kidnapper bears an unusual resemblance to her father.

This is sounding like an episode from Law & Order. Strange.
That is because most of us 50+ year old guys look about the same.
So there is more to the story, than a girl being kidnapped by this man.
No, of course an adult man should not go off with an underage girl. Just saying, this girl probably was vulnerable due to a chaotic home life, and she was eager to go with him to escape the home.
We will probably learn that he took advantage of her vulnerabilities due to the home situation. And probably learn that they plotted their escape together.
I’m going to reserve judgement just because I’m always skeptical of allegations made during a divorce. People have plenty of ulterior motive to invent stuff in that situation.
It’s interesting reading for me, I won’t deny it, but we the public don’t really need to know about any of these events.
The girl was lost, now she has been recovered and returned to her family. The Kidnapper (Paramour?) is going to be locked up for a long time. Case Closed!
Some folks clam up and implode when they’re upset, others cannot stop talking about it.
Maybe Mr. Thomas is the later type, and keeps getting baited by reporters who keep asking about ‘just one more thing’.
Some of his children are adults. One would hope they could go to him and say ‘Enough, Dad! We are not the Kardashians!”
This is going to be a Lifetime special you watch I called it!
And just what did the father do about all of this abuse — besides divorcing the woman?

There is no doubt about it. Everyone main character involved can be viewed as both innocent victim and complicit villain. Everyone! Any scriptwriter straight out of college could write some good dialog about it, real or imagined.
Seems like she went willingly. If he had had money and a place set up they never would have found them, IMO.
At the time of the Amber Alert I said this was probably simply a family problem visited on the public.

I scanned the article. It seems that for her, trading in her train wreck of a family for a married 50 year old was trading up. That is sad.
The former teacher needs to be punished, she was below the age of consent and he broke the law and betrayed his wife and family. However I fear for the young woman. I hope that she is able to find help and eventually happiness.
