I wonder how much truth there is in an old joke:
When one USDA bureaucrat asked a coworker why he was looking so despondent, his colleague’s response was “My farmer just died.”
I wonder, did most schools comply with the moose’s guidelines? It reminds me of VW’s recent disaster when they got caught. No one seems to question why a multinational company would take the huge gamble they took. Could it be the regulations were so outrageous and nearly impossible that were they felt forced to “cheat” or cease making many of the cars.
i recently started doing some substituting for a local school district, and very recently took a full-time job with the district... i have seen the meals offered at a few of the schools where i subbed... they look pretty darn good... and the choices are impressive... salad bar, deli sandwiches, pizza, traditional meals like spaghetti, burritos, pasta alfredo, fresh fruit, pbj, yogurt, granola... and there are different menus for the elementary students and middle school students... each day there are 4-5 different options... i was surprised... this is not a wealthy school district... the schools are located mostly on the east side of San Jose... i was surprised because i have seen some of the pictures of the lunches offered at some of the government schools... i guess not all school districts have been under Michelle’s meddling hands...
i like that!
Bring back Tater Tots, hot dogs and those yummy peanut butter Rice Krispie treats

Note that it was an 8 to 1 decision with the “wise Latrina” dissenting.
Moochele should have been locked up with her brood and force fed the slop she want imposed on school children
That stuff on the bottom right looks like what I clean off the garage floor after my boxer/mutt has been in the neighbors trash
I’m with the “no rules” for school lunch programs too. When I went to school, (granted many years back in the 50’s) they actually cooked a wholesome filling lunch there at the school, and it was always tasty. If you didn’t prefer what was offered, you could purchase a sloppy joe burger, or a hot dog. A lot of us couldn’t afford the lunch daily, so brown bagged it. I recall only one girl in that entire school who was actually obese. People took pride in their appearance, even those of scant means. Pity things have so changed.
Good for Somny
Oh honey that boat sailed in the early sixties. If you take federal funds your school must provide lunch
I read that our new Secretary of agriculture said that they are going to make sure the immigrants that work in fields are safe from deportation.
Obamas would never even feed their dogs that crap!
Sadly, without federal mandates, they would be serving spoiled and/or substandard food to the kids.
I know—I used to buy school lunches. I finally started brownbagging it, the day I saw that the meatloaf was covered on the bottom with what looked like little white suction cups. The other kids and I, upon discovering our meat looked like this underneath, nearly threw up on the spot.
Moose-chelle’s program was an idiotic failure of massive proportions. But kids nevertheless do need to be protected from a lunch industry that would gladly feed children food that isn’t fit for pigs.
That’s why kids used to write on bathroom walls, “Flush twice—it’s a long way to the kitchen.”
I agree, it’s best to buy fresh produce instead of canned. Not just because of how it’s handled, but because of the BPA in the cans themselves.
Road to hell --- is paved with good intentions.
Several years back I posted what our local school served back in 1964 compared to today’s Obamameals. What difference!
Back then from 1952-1964 all the school meals were excellent EXCEPT those in AZTEC, NM in 1956. Worst school meals ever! Even Obamameals were better than that slop, and it was slop! It was common for kids to gag it down and throw it right back up. Finally I got mom to make my lunches and I took them to school in a paper sack.
AZTEC’S meals HAD to be bad to remember it after 61 years!
Best meals were in Denver Colorado 1953.
Well for openers, there’s all the mold growing on the processing equipment that got cleaned of once a week. Then there’s using snow shovels to pick up fruit spills on the asphalt floor then throwing it back onto the line. Then there’s the lye pealer used to remove the skins, followed by blanching with hot water to remove the last vestiges of the skin and the lye water, and finally the debris from the aging glass in the monitor windows above the lines that fell into the cans on occasion. When the fruit goes into the can, it just a semi-wooden chunk that gets it’s “flavor” back from the syrup. The good news is that the cannery in question was torn down and now has been replaced by Pixar Animation Studios, a Disney subsidiary.
New rules??? How about NO rules?
I am with you. Get the FedGov completely out of schools. I hope and pray that Betsy DeVos is working on that very thing.
Young growing children need plenty of fat to build brain cells and plenty of protein to build muscle. When I was on our high school football team I would eat a whole package of Oscar Meyer wieners (cold) after practice
