Who Is Interested In A Conflict In North Korea?
Strategic Culture ^ | 5-2-2017 | Federico PIERACCINI

Posted on 05/02/2017 9:27:27 PM PDT by blam

In case of war with North Korea, the US would face a military challenge as perhaps never before in the last seventy years. This is why a conventional deterrence is actually more important than the nuclear one if we break down a realistic war scenario. The downside is that the DPRK is fully aware that if it responded to a US attack, even in a limited way and only on military targets, it would be flagged as an aggressor, paving the way for a larger foreign intervention.

To answer this question, it is necessary to examine what would entail a US attack on North Korea. Suffice it to say that as the neocon Senator John McCain has admitted, the US would be unable to defend Seoul (as well as its US bases nearby) in the first 24 to 48 hours of a conflict. A city of 20 million inhabitants, together with military bases containing thousands of soldiers, would suffer untold loss of life.

The United States would certainly suffer huge losses, revealing weaknesses that could be exploited in future conflicts, a consideration that would need to be considered if contemplating shooting down DPRK missiles.

China would certainly not be happy to risk a humanitarian catastrophe on its own border, not to mention being eventually forced to intervene to defend its ally (there is a treaty between the two countries). Japan and South Korea would be hit hard, being clearly exposed to a North Korean retaliatory attack; so they clearly do not want a war with Pyongyang. The great truth about the Korean Peninsula is that despite the fact that every country flexes its muscles and seems ready to act, no one wants this eventuality, as no one could win this war, and everyone would suffer devastating effects both economically...

Kim Jong Un might be crazy but not stupid. The last thing he wants is war with the USA. That would unify Korea toute suite and he would be dead! ;-)

If it were not for the Church committee “reforms” of the 1970’s that emasculated the CIA, there would be no problem with North Korea. His own inner circle would have, with a bit of CIA encouragement and inducements, solved the problem. No widespread misery, destruction of carnage, just a political change that would have benefitted everyone.

This obsession with North Korea has me baffled. Why is the Trump administration focusing on this? What the heck happened with defeating ISIS and the radical Islamic threat? North Korea has been sabre rattling for decades. They shoot off some missiles, have thier parades, bluster and threaten, they get some funding from here and there and shut up for awhile. What am I missing here?

First, take a serious review of the authors of this B.S., Federico Pieraccini.
I'm not inclined to take anything he's 'selling' seriously.
He may have some descent info about the "conflicts in Ukraine, Libya, Egypt, Syria, and Iraq", but Korea is a whole other 'ballgame'.

When's the last time this communist reporter was in South Korea ?
When's the last time he even researched the weapon systems South Korea has recently developed ?

I chuckle at his statement that "The United States would certainly suffer huge losses ..., " especially after the 5 short tours I have served in South Korea, before I retired out of the military.
Does Federico Pieraccini even know, or understand, the capabilities already proven by CHAMP (“Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project”) and MOP ("Massive Ordnance Penetrator").
As "a military analyst who writes the WAR UPDATE for" the Russian Insider, Federico Pieraccini may be more of a propagandist for Russia, than an honest reporter.

The"lancing of the North Korean Boil" will be over much quicker than all these socialists/communists "experts" believe.

The CIA was a collection of fools rarely able to do anything significant. It was used by the Mafia which was to carry out the Agency’s plan to assassinate Castro but in reality accomplished their own agenda including the murder of JFK. It has gotten worse in the intervening years.

It is the epitome of the “Deep State” Rush has belatedly discovered. In the past he would have ridiculed anyone believing in it.

Yes, I wonder about that also. This issue came out of nowhere. The statements that China is “working with us” on changing the North Korean regime are laughable - China created that regime. They are playing its own game and would double cross us. Why not leave it alone and rely upon the nuclear detterent to restrain North Korea?

All the Hugh losses we'd suffer in the Iraq War. Wrong! Another great military mind telling us how bad we are.

What you are missing is that the lunatics are running the asylum.
Testing missiles with the intent of possessing ICBMs capable of hitting the United States by this lunatic is the point.
Would we be able to confront him if he had that capability right now? Get it ??
