The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill on Thursday to repeal major parts of Obamacare and replace it with a Republican healthcare plan, handing President Donald Trump his biggest legislative victory but setting up a tough fight in the Senate.
With the 217-213 vote, Republicans obtained just enough support to push the legislation through the House, sending it to the Senate for consideration. No Democrats voted for the bill.
The bill's passage represented a vital step toward fulfilling a top Trump campaign pledge and a seven-year Republican quest to dismantle Democratic former President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law. But the effort now faces new hurdles in the Senate, where the House bill will have difficulty gaining Republican support.

I'd laugh if, tomorrow, the Senate said...okay...let's vote and got their 51 votes.
If Reuters, WAPO or the NYT say it is a victory for Trump (or any non-liberal Democrat president) then it isn’t.
Plain and simple. Because if it were indeed a victory, to couldn’t drag it out of them with wild horses.
Agree. They only reason they’d call the house vote a victory is by knowing the senate is gonna kill it.
Sets up the “Trump thought he had it in the bag, but he didn’t consider what the senate would say. Welcome to DC, rookie.” narrative.
I know what you mean. That’s how I initially look at things too.
On the other hand, Trump’s finally been able to herd enough House cats in the same direction to actually get something over to the Senate. So in that sense, yeah, it’s definitely a victory.
Great - now WE own this disaster...
Exactly!
However the Senate may fool them. The media gets fooled by believing their own ‘narrative’ a lot in the time of Trump.
It’s still a welfare program but it’s a start I guess. And it puts a little salve on the CR that caused US Trump voters a lot of pain.
Probably won’t be everything I wanted.
Probably will be eons better than Obamacare.
Hopefully what we don’t like, will be addressed more and more over time too.
Schumer is pondering his next "never...never....never"...move. He will act the exact same way as he did for Gorsuch. So Mr. Schumer....quiet down....we know how you and your boot lickers will vote.
Turning the Titanic takes some time.
Trump is stemming the bleeding of Obamacare. This will be better than what Obamacare is now. Just think if HIllary or any democrat were president. We’d be falling off the clifff.
And maybe it is an indication of what might happen in the future? With future legislation.
I’m particularly happy if people who got their hours cut get back to 40 hours so they don’t have to work two jobs.
We’re screwed either way...SO A WIN IS A WIN!!! Just to see those bastard rats sulk in their lattes! ..LOVE IT!!
Yup.
That’s why “repeal ONLY” was paramount: nothing to own, let people sort out their own financial affairs.
This “and replace” BS is BS.
Allow interstate commerce in health insurance, resolve the “pre-existing conditions” problem, enact tort reform, incentivize _basic_ coverage for the existential poor.
But with “repeal & replace” we’re imputed as owning what’s next, and the Left will spend the next 4 years blaming us for every d@mn thing they can.
Here’s hoping you’re right.
I view the current situation as a leaning tower, generally favoring Trump’s agenda.
It’s been wavering a bit, thanks to an anti-Trump media, their coverage of the antifa whackos, and the budget vote... but once it starts tipping, as it has been with our SCOTUS win, decisive military strikes, and now this making it through the house....
Timber!
It better be _A_ step in the right direction, instead of _THE_ step in the right direction.
Sounds like the mandate might be gone. Lets see if it survives the Senate in tact and what will be cut or added.
Thinking about what we would be facing under Hillary, is something thought of entirely too little around here these days.
Some folks act as if Trump is the enemy. Wow, do they have a short memory.
