The Ka-52K ship-based helicopters have successfully completed the first stage of sea trials, according to the press service of the Russian Helicopters holding company (part of the Rostec State Corporation).
"Ka-52K helicopters have completed the first stage of sea trials. Currently, the vehicles are at Kamovs facilities, where specialists are completing the status evaluation of the helicopters and their separate units after mission accomplishment in difficult climatic conditions," the report states.
It is noted that the tests that took place from late 2016 to early 2017 involved two helicopters. According to Vladislav Saveliev, Deputy CEO of the holding company, it can be concluded from the results of the sea trials that the vehicles can be deployed aboard the aircraft carrying cruiser and successfully fulfill the assigned missions.
"The helicopter has unique characteristics, but one cruise to the sea is not enough to understand how its engines, units, avionics, control systems and weapons behave in a marine climate." The design bureau will continue its activities in the scope of tests, including on board a aircraft-carrying ship," Saveliev said.
At present, the helicopters are already available to Kamov engineers for carrying out additional studies of the operation of the helicopter and its separate units, as well as making modifications to meet possible requirements.
The Russian Helicopters report does not specify the warships and regions where the sea trials of the Ka-52K were conducted. However, it is known that the cruise to the shores of Syria allowed the crew of the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov to test new aircraft. This was reported to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin by commander of the ship Sergei Artamonov at a

In true form, the ‘Ka-series” helicopter continues the dual-opposed-rotor design.
The old Hokum looks kind of weird with that pointy beak. Guess it’s aerodynamic + maybe a new radar. Now that we dropped our Kiowas, maybe we should see if we can get a smokin’ deal from the boys at Kamov.
Sure why not? We already have dozens of Soviet built helicopters... What’s a few more.
Ought to be very stable in hover mode.................
For the time being it looks like it’s either something foreign or drones. I did see a Comanche once, but it was a stripped airframe on the back of a flatbed heading down I-10 :(
About a decade ago, such a “purchase” could have realistically occurred. Kamov and Israel’s IAI worked on offering a customised KA-50 variant for Turkey’s attack helicopter competition called the KA-50-2 Erdogan. It would have been the ultimate “East meets West” fantasy, if it came through.
