James Comey epitomizes a lot of what is wrong with Washington and the elite culture of which he is a part. The question Americans ought to be asking after his recent testimony before Congress is not “What happened?” with Hillary Clinton, the election, or the Russians but “How the hell is this guy still running the FBI?” It’s a question for the president too.
Comey is a creature of Washington and the self-interested hypocritical elites that President Trump excoriated on his road to the White House. And yet there was Comey the other day, preening before Congress in his “ah shucks I’m just a big tall guy trying my darndest to do the right thing” act, balancing attacks from the left and right with a complacent disregard for any notion of what is right, other than his take at the moment on any particular issue.
Comey’s survival owes in part to some basic qualities. In many respects he is the type of guy who typically prospers in a hierarchical environment. He is tall and imposing, while being technically smart and basically competent. Comey always appears calm and has the knack to look slightly exasperated when fielding questions or criticism, as if those inquiring are barely worthy of his intellect or attention, but he deigns anyway. In an attempt to buffer his obvious condensation he offers up that occasional “Aw shucks” moment, as when at the recent hearing he exclaimed “Golly!” to explain how he felt about the slings and arrows sent his way.

The thing is, Comey has been cleaning up after the Clintons for decades. And he seems to have been well rewarded for cleaning up after them over the years.
It appears mistakes and bad judgement aren’t enough for a 10 year appointee to be fired.
Does what he have in his head justify his continued employment?
Does Lynch’s behavior justify his appointment?
Why does he even want the job?

Maybe Trump is waiting for the “Russia Interfered - Collusion” thing to die before he takes action. Otherwise he will be accused of something similar to Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre of Watergate Infamy.

Probably the same reason J. Edgar Hoover stayed around so long but leaving out the crime fighting.
The basic reason is that presidents figure out early that if they go after one president, the next president will go after him. That’s why the system remains corrupted.
A direct assault often does more harm then good!
Indirect can be much more effective, but requires patience.
And I have no inside knowledge, no crystal ball just my reading of what I see and what I think I know about Trump.
Comey also gave Sandy Berger only a 50k fine for stealing documents during the 9/11 Commission. This isn’t draining the swamp.
He should have been fired day one. This is a MAJOR disappointment in Trump.

The 10 year appointment is simply a maximum time he may serve. But he is still an At-will employee and no reason at all is needed to fire him.
Many think he has a 10 year term and can only be removed for cause, but it isn’t. Its simply the longest a president can allow him to serve.

Recall from math ...”SETS”? Lawyers are a set of, by themselves for sure. Any intersection of anyone from another set (ordinary folks) with a lawyer results in enriching the lawyer ! When one of them is attacked, their entire set comes to their immediate defense....(see Bill and Hillary Clintoon for example)
Sets, tribes, etc all operate to protect their members..much of the time to the total destruction of their ‘enemy.’ Always, in the case of lawyers, to their enrichment !

Absolutly right. Trump missed a golden opportunity. HRC couldn’t blame her loss on a guy Trump just fired. It will be sticky to fire him now but it needs to be done. I think Comey believes he influenced the election and now he is bending over back words to “make amends”.
