House leaders worry more meetings secretly recorded
Axios ^ | 5/18/2017 | Johnathon Swan

House Republican leadership is agitated after the Washington Post published a transcript from a secret recording of one of the inner-sanctum conversations in the office of Speaker Paul Ryan.

The transcript shows House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy joking with his colleagues that then-candidate Trump and California Republican Dana Rohrabacher were both on the payroll of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The unknown is frustrating," said one senior GOP aide, referring to the possibility that this wasn't the only private leadership conversation that was secretly recorded. Keep reading 210 words

Behind-the-scenes: House leadership sources have pored over the article and are privately discussing theories about where the leak came from:

---snip---

The most widespread theory in House leadership is that the secret recorder and the leaker was Evan McMullin, who as a former leadership aide participated in the June 15 conversation and confirmed the private conversation to the Washington Post.

I work around a lot of State Department people, and I always act as if they are going to immediately report anything said to the Ambassador or another senior person. I do not trust any of them to NOT stab someone in the back.

Any politician who thinks what he says is *not* being recorded, without extreme measures in place to prevent it, is naive.

We should flood the phone lines of the people who had this conversation. Ryan should be held accountable for participating in this disloyalty to the President.

I see in news this morning they are now going after Pence saying he knew about Turkey connections with Flynn- which he denied. I think the plan is to get Ryan to Presidency.

Smart thinking.assume the worst.

Mcmuffin seems the likely candidate. Ryan denied the story...until he was told there was a recording. I bet there are more of them

I can not believe people are so dense.

How can the congress believe they are not being survailed when the dark state has the ability to fly overhead and pick up all phone calls? When they can get into the communications system of governments that are tech smart?

I suspect that the white house is being survailed and that many leaks are due to spies rather than employees, although obviously there are some who are not loyal.

Anyone on capital hill should expect everything to be recorded. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t.

Worrisome. If they’re trying to replace the VP then they think they already have the potus.

Why was McMuffin even allowed into the event?

The President needs to find the nearest known leader and make an example of them.

That’s the money question.

Who invited this jerk?

We are living through the middle of Leak Wars.

The deep state intel operatives have chosen-up sides.
A leak comes out to harm Trump, another appears to
discredit one of his accusers.

Buckle up, it’s gonna be a wild ride.

Believe it or not, McMullin was the policy director for the House Republican Conference at the time.

This allegedly happened in June 2016? How far back does the joking around about Trump and the Ruskies go?

Assuming these asshats were having a joke at Trump's expense, it shows a lack of seriousness with which they saw the Trump campaign, and if not a joke, it shows how duplicitous these clowns are and why they need be gone.

At this juncture, I don’t think anybody would meet with any politician without bringing along a recording device.
