They tell me it’s a victimless crime ...

Immoderate use of any drug - heroin, alcohol, etc. - by parents of minor children victimizes the children. It doesn't follow from this that we should ban those drugs for all adults including childless ones.

Rural America?! My town, a "nice" suburb north of Boston has had numerous heroin overdoses.

Yeah, it's everywhere. But it's been in urban areas areas for decades. Small town/rural America, until the past few years used to be immune to many of the social problems prevalent in big cities.

I have a small deer camp in the mountains of western PA, outside of the tiny little burg I was born in. 10 years ago, we didn't even bother to lock the door. Not any more.

Now I have to go down there several ties a year just to make sure nobody's broken in and turned my camp into a meth lab.

In many states narcan/naloxone can be purchased over the counter with no prescription, in some places it is even free. The cartels have to love that, tax payer money saves their customers for return business.

I wonder why epipens aren’t free. You don’t even choose to get stung by bees on purpose.

Stop dumping on social workers. They can only do what the law allows. State legislators who you placed into office made the rules social workers must follow. The primary goal in Texas, as it is most everywhere, is to reunite the family no matter what. To take a child away from a parent requires higher up approval and court action where the “idiot social worker” again has to follow the judge’s ruling. I was one of your “idiot social workers” who was nearly thrown in jail twice for daring to point out lies the parents and their attorneys were dishing out. Another hearing, half the Hispanic community and I were trying to save a child from a perverted priest and her parents but were admonished by the judge. This “idiot social worker” also won the state’s case against moronic parents while on jury selection. The state ran jury selection out to 5 pm at which time the judge called me up by name to the bench to dismiss me. You want change? Go look in the mirror and talk to your legislators and judges.

Well, I don't do PC very well.

I still sometimes use the "N Word" to describe black criminals who behave in a similar manner, so I guess "white trash" isn't overly harsh or inappropriate.

"White trash" is what they call people like these in my little home town in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and have for for the past hundred years or so. It doesn't mean the same thing as redneck, a term they actually embrace, it means a totally reprehensible white person, like these bums.

A little, "Special Sauce" goes a long way.

***That poor child. What has he see in his young life?***
***Prayers for these children.***

As you mention, that young boy has seen plenty, and has had to grow up very fast.

I’ll tell you a story of a friend of mine. Her parents were divorced when she was about the same age as this boy. Her mother was an alcoholic. Dad wanted nothing to do with the Mom, but could only get the kids every other weekend. My friend had 3 siblings, one an infant at the time of the divorce. She had to take care of her 3 siblings, clean the house, and take care of mom too. At the age of 5, she asked her Grandma if she could please come to live with her permanently. Somehow, her mother relinquished custody of her, and only her, to her Grandmother’s care. She still saw her father and siblings every other weekend.

I agree about praying for these children. My friend grew up to marry her high school sweetheart, and they have two children of their own, but then adopted another. After that they fostered 28 more children over many years, and were able to adopt several of those. My friend took any child that CS thought were difficult cases. Only a couple of them did she “return” to the agency, and only because they put other children at risk. She is a devout Christian, and in my mind, walks the walk every day. She even took care of her alcoholic mother when she had a stroke!

I tell you this true story, because my friend has been a huge inspiration to me and countless others. At Thanksgiving every year, all those children of hers, natural, adopted, and fostered, come to her place with their own families. She’s an amazing person.

I hope and pray that this young boy will have a happy life despite the hardships he has already endured. You never know when someone will use the tragedy in his life, to overcome so many odds, and maybe even help others.

There's a wonderful nonfiction memoir published last year about the drug problems of the rust belt. It's everywhere gutted by the Obama economy.

An inspiring story. The original John D. Rockefeller was a strictly religious teetotaler because his father was a notorious drunk and philanderer. He wanted to protect his mother and siblings, and developed systematic habits and self-discipline.

I didn’t realize that. My friend is also a teetotaler, and with her background. I don’t blame her one bit.

My other friends and I often tell this friend that she should write a book about her life. Seriously, she’s one of a kind and a treasured friend. I have never met anyone like her before. I think she a living saint.

I also meant to say that I’m happy to have at least shared one tiny bit of her story with others. She’s the kind of person who is too humble to toot her own horn, but her idea of helping as many kids as possible is of paramount importance.Shes a true gem, and I hope to take on some of her attributes.
