Yes, the bodies stay along with tons of human waste. Everest is a giant $hitcicle.

Ya scrape together enough cash, and the guides (and Sherpas) haul your ass to the top. There's even a term for it: the Conga Line.

"Into Thin Air" is a fascinating read. Many of these jerks are literally dragged to the top by the Sherpas, putting the lives of others at risk, so they can go home, pound their chests and brag that they "climbed" Everest.

Interestingly, the US doctor who just died almost died in an avalanche after the 2015 earthquake. He had made the summit previously, so he wasn't even doing it for bragging rights this time. So many people have now gotten to the top that it doesn't seem like such an impressive accomplishment anymore.

More like $45K+ for a guided climb. $11K is just for the permit.

And that is why they call anying above 8000 meters the death zone.

The bodies stay bucause it’s usually not safe to remove them as others lost their lives trying to retrieve the bodies of their friends. The dead zone on the mountain is real as climbers make thier way the past dead to the summit. It is a heavy reminder of how dangerous it is to climb and easy to die.

All of these ego driven self aggrandizing exercises are the same. Claimed to “personal quests” they are anything but. They only serve as confirmation of how great a man (or, recently women) the person is.

And, if was truly a “personal quest” I would be fine with these folks killing themselves quietly, somewhere on their own.

But, when these “personal quests” go awry, it always seems to involve rescuers, helicopters, ships at sea, search parties, etc. The public paying for it is the least of the problem.

The deceased in this misadventure not doubt died anything but “happy.”

At least there is that.

If bragging rights is that important to someone, it’s much, much, safer for everyone if they just buy a Tesla - providing they can get out of it quickly when the battery goes up.

Know a guy who had a Tesla Model S for a short time. He spent most of it driving an Accord rental because the Tesla was always in the shop. He finally traded it on an BMW I8.

What an IDIOT - did he really think that his Tesla was meant to be driven?

Of course not! You buy a Tesla to TALK ABOUT IT at socials...hopefully he understands that now.

Who gives “a rat’s ass” about them.

Spoiled rich trying to climb a big rock so that they can say they did it. Worse yet, costing the locals a fortune in rescue efforts when something goes wrong.

I would suggest that they go “volcano diving” next time.
