Manchester Arena attack victim named as Ariana Grande superfan Georgina Callander

The first victim of the Manchester Arena suicide bombing has been named as West Lancs teenager Georgina Callander - who once met Ariana Grande.

Several reports say the 18-year-old, an ‘Ariana superfan’ was killed during the terror attack at the arena which left 21 other people dead and 59 injured.

Georgina’s former school, Bishop Rawstorne, in Croston near Burscough posted their condolences online.

It said: “Following the shocking events in Manchester yesterday, we have been informed that one of our former students, Georgina Callander, has died as a result of injuries sustained.

“Georgina was a lovely young student who was very popular with her peers and the staff and always made the most of the opportunities she had at the school.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Georgina’s family at this terrible time, and we think especially of her brothers Harry and Daniel who are also former students of the school.

“All of our students will gather together today for a time of prayer and reflection and to give thanks for the life of Georgina.”

Georgina, a keen concert-goer who recently turned 18, tweeted Ariana on Sunday to say she was “so excited” to see her in concert.

Her Instagram profile shows several pictures of her meeting her idols, including the Side-to-side hitmaker herself.

Actor Sean Maguire took to Twitter to pay his respects to the “young and sweet” teenager who reportedly died in hospital with her mum at her bedside.

He said: “Just met this girl in April, she was killed last night in Manchester. My love to her and all the families of the victims.”

Her friends paid tribute to a “ray of sunshine” who will “be missed so much”.

Sophie Marsh, who had earlier tweeted to say Georgina was in hospital with her mum at her bedside, said: “To my beautiful best friend I hope you rest in peace my darling. I love you so much and will always miss you.

“There was not one bad bone in her body she was a true ray of sunshine and loved everyone for who they were.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed 22 people have been killed and around 59 injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosion in a busy foyer near to the arena at approximately 10.33pm on Monday night.

Hundreds of people - many of whom were young girls - were leaving the Ariana Grande concert when they heard “loud bangs”.

One person, Andy Holey from Liverpool, said he was “thrown 30ft in the air” by the blast, which also left nuts and bolts scattered across the floor.

This girl at all the others are the sacrifices required to be made for the greater good of these "refugees" in the minds of the left.

A couple dozen teenagers and their parents massacred is nothing compared to the electoral Power Labour will have once all these refugees start voting for them.

Can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs right?

"...Georgina Callander..."

Poor unfortunate kid. Such a waste, so innocent. Such evil in this world.

Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld Expo, where Ariana Grande is due to hold a concert in September, said it would improve security at all concerts and events. Besides baggage inspection, there would also be metal detectors and search dogs, it said in a statement.

Why was this not already in place? Based on past experience these procedures should be done world wide at large venues.

This hits home hard for me too since my seven year old Niece got take by her Paternal Aunt the Ariana Grande concert in Kansas City not a month ago.

This could have very easily have happened to her.

Our so-called leaders have gotten a lot of us killed already. They treat it as a cost of doing business.

I hope its the beginning of the end for these cowards as Trump lays down the gauntlet.

But I thought this attacked happed when the concert was over?

Everyone was leaving.

Increased security at the start wouldn't have done anything in this situation.

I agree. It’s sheer negligence (bordering imho on criminal negligence) NOT to prepare for the worst, realize the possibility, and take all reasonable measures to prevent it.

That has all changed since last night after PM May’s speech. The left lost.

I only heard a very quick sound bite as I was walking out the door today.

Sounds like I need to go and listen to it.

She didn't start with we should all re-tweet #PrayforManchester as everyone else would have done?

it happened in the foyer...

the Islamic terrorist could have come in off the street at that time and not been there earlier for the concert...

the foyer doors would have been opened with people leaving...

plus theres always the fear of an “islamiphobe” label that must be avoided at all costs even the cost of lives...

Like 911, people will forget, and the leftist murder suicide crawl will resume once emotions die down.

Our so-called leaders have gotten a lot of us killed already. They treat it as a cost of doing business.

Bartlett said the greatest human failing was the failure to understand the exponential function. I would disagree by suggesting that perhaps the greater mistake is a failure to recognize that competition for scarce resources is the key driver of humanity.

Nation states are formed by larger tribal/clan allegiances to work together in unison to capture/control scarce resources for themselves. However, **however** members of these larger groups almost always fail to recognize that there are sub-groups that also work in concert to capture/control resources for themselves.

In times past, it was known as monarchy; today we call it an oligarchy ie the uni-party. To understand why our so-called "leaders" couldn't possibly give a sh!t whether or not citizens die is to comprehend and realize to what end their long term game plan is comprised.

Many people see what is occurring with mass, large scale immigration, and perceive that there's a program of population substitution afoot. Native citizens are simply the remnant, old stock due for replacement with those less able to conduct individual affairs along with built in state dependence.

The question as to why needs to be answered. And the answer is competition - once people relax and assume they are safe, that's when the dagger strikes. Americans have been complacent for generations, assuming our government represents us and our interests. It doesn't - it's simply a vehicle for exploitation, with the evidence everywhere you look.

The attack was carried out after the concert finished, outside the arena as people were leaving. It would be just as simple to stage such an attack amongst the throngs of people waiting en masse to get through security. What do you do then? Move security out farther and farther from the venue? There will always be chokepoints, where a large number of people are gathered, that can be used as targets as well.

My heart goes out to the families of these kids. What a waste.

On the other hand, if she were a true Superfan, she would have stayed for the entire concert. So, this is somewhat of a cautionary tale.

This is like going through all the TSA rigamarole and security plus the airlines rules only to be assainated as you leave the airport after your flight.

Excellent point. People leaving a venue are an easy target. No matter where the security ring starts, all the Islamist has to do is be a foot further away.

The bomb went off during the finale. People were starting to leave. The arena was pretty much full.

It was sarcasm. Don’t read everything as it is serious.
