....“I ain’t fit to live, not after what I done....

Though he’s not dead yet, these are fitting last words. Like the last words of convicted murderer Charles Bass in Texas 1986, with a shaved head having electrodes with wet sponges attached to his head and feet in a bucket of water as he sat in “old Sparky, the Texas electric chair. “I deserve this. Tell everyone I said goodbye.*

If there’s any consolation, the great state of Mississippi won’t waste much time in putting that sorry S.O.B. on death row. The perp is black; his victims—family members are also black, the deputy is white. Might take an “integrated” jury upwards of an hour to find him guilty, and another hour or so to agree on the death penalty.

And if I’m not mistaken, the Magnolia State had the foresight to reintroduce the electric chair and firing squad if their supply of drugs for lethal injections is interrupted in the future. Unfortunately, the suspect is likely to change his mind once in prison, and authorize his taxpayer-funded legal defense team to file endless appeals, based on (pick at least one): a) mental handicap; b) insanity, c) his impoverished upbringing, or d) all the above
