World’s First Multi-Million Dollar Carbon-Capture Plant Does Work Of Just $17,640 Worth Of Trees
National Economics Editorial ^ | June 2, 2017 | Editorial Staff

Posted on 6/2/2017, 10:54:44 PM by Thalean

"On May 31 the world’s first commercial carbon dioxide capture-plant was opened in Hinwil, Switzerland.

It’s designed and operated by a Swiss company called Climeworks, and uses a modular design that can be scaled up over time.

The company says that the plant will remove 900 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year by passing it through a special filter that isolates carbon dioxide molecules...

In fact, it only takes an average of 98 trees to remove 1 ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per year.

That means that this plant is worth only 88,200 trees per year (never mind the fabrication costs for all the parts, which probably have an enormous carbon footprint).

Although we can’t compare the costs because Climeworks doesn’t state the cost of their plant on their website—probably because it’s egregiously high, we do know the cost of planting trees.

You can sponsor charities to plant trees for you at a grand total of 20 cents per tree.

That means that only $17,640 worth of trees could do the work of the multi-million dollar Hinwil carbon-capture plant."

This is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Ever.

Liberals are too far gone.

Just what are they capturing the CO2 for? Soda bottling?

Well, do they make something useful from captured CO2?

and unlike a tree, the whiz-bang de-carbonizer returns nothing for the buck, no wood, no shade, no water retention, no home for plants, insects, birds, small mammals, and of course the thing no one can live without: OXYGEN you idiots!!!!

As always, the premise is wrong. Carbon sustains life, it is not a pollutant. No carbon, no photosynthesis, no food.

They would ultimately love to remove all carbon dioxide to get rid of all that nasty oxygen keeping the damned human race alive. Liberals are nothing if not genocidal.

Carbon-Capture Plant

What is the application for this that meets consumer demand? Otherwise, it's just another useless government project that wastes taxpayers money and ends up like "The Projects" and every government project - on the scrapheap of futility.

I really have to wonder sometimes if they are not Nitrogen breathing reptilian aliens from the Sigma Draconis system....

And they want to eliminate CO2 because it’s easier for them to take over the planet when all earth critters are dead....

As an actual scientist AND an engineer: I have three questions about this plant:

1. How many months of operation does this plant take to capture the carbon from the carbon-energy equivalent energy consumed in fabricating and constructing this plant?

2. How much carbon output from carbon-equivalent energy does it take to operate this plant for a year?

3. Is its carbon-energy equivalent carbon consumption greater than the carbon it “captures”, but if less, what is the net difference of the “captured” carbon vs. its annual carbon-energy equivalent carbon operational output?

And rainbows, Unicorns and Skittles are not allowed to be included in the calculations.

These kinds of schemes are profoundly scary.

They can pump out thousands of tons of carbon, presumably to store it in a form unusable by living things. As the level of carbon dioxide in the air drops, the plants that require the highest levels of CO2 will start dying off. As they die, bacteria will consume them, turning them back into carbon dioxide. As a result, the carbon dioxide content of the air will hover at about the same concentration until all of the most susceptible plants have died. Then the level will drop again, until the next most susceptible plants start to die off.

As this process continues, the total amount of life that the earth can support decreases. By the time these global warmists notice, the biosphere will be gravely damaged.

This must be one of the most diabolical schemes the left has ever concocted. They have made millions of people so terrified of carbon dioxide that they have massive support for removing and eliminating a chemical that is absolutely essential for life—not only essential, but which is literally the building material of carbon based life. And while they are happily destroying life on earth, the ignorant masses will be cheering them for “saving the planet.”

I would say this carbon dioxide removal facility is not only dangerous, but is an existential threat.

Besides plant food, CO2 has some important uses.

What’s this plant going to do with the CO2 it captures?

this is truly funny. When you do hot house hydroponics veggie growing there are machines that inject CO2 into your system. It helps the plants grow. i would love to get one of those and put it beside these multi-million dollar pieces of crap.

No one really cares about the carbon. It’s a massive money laundering operation. Follow the money to see who benefits vs who has money taken ( typically the tax payer).

“In fact, it only takes an average of 98 trees to remove 1 ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per year.”

1) How many trees are on the planet?
2) How many trees will it take to clean 30 billion tons of carbon per year?
3) Whetever the difference is, plant that many trees.

Problem solved.

As a bonus, build 200 desalination facilities using solar power as the power source. Use that water to provide clean water to areas that need it most. Create a pipe whose surface absorbs sunlight and can also be used for a collector.

Oh, those desalination plants will prevent the massive floods that will kill us all. /yes, sarcasm.
