The town is known for the charming gas lamps and on a foggy night, it is beautiful. I think there are about 3000 gas lamps left as street lighting in the US. South Orange (nice town) has lots of them and Glen Ridge has over 600. On all streets, except the county road which passes thru the town.
My back yard borders a small patch of woods and often see deer families there. Even have a fox family. Yesterday one fox decided to curl up and take a long nap in the back yard.
And — a chicken coop next door. All this just 12 miles (the way the crow flies) from Manhattan.
However, this once very conservative town is changing, due to the influx of New Yorkers. They have come with their liberal vote. And because of the districting, my conservative vote means very little anymore. Sigh.
Yes — high taxes, but all kids walk to school. No buses. And the schools are one of the biggest attractions for living here.
True. Glen Ridge used to be one of the most conservative towns in Essex. It’s the Montclair liberals and New Yorkers.
Montclair is probably more liberal than Bloomfield.
