The punishment needs to be much more severe as this was, in practice, homicide by the mother of two innocent little toddlers.

“Blonde, blue-eyed kids,” he told Fox 29 San Antonio in a report that aired Friday.”

Why would that be relevant?

Does that make their deaths more tragic or the crime more horrific?

The sheriff is way out of line on that one.

It’s a bit odd.

Her bond is only $70k and for now is facing only child endangerment charges. That’s two years max.

It seems by now they would have enough evidence and witness statements to up,the charges.

If she is released in bond, her first act will be to get pregnant again.

Seriously, “child endangerment”? That’s it? This sounds like murder, or at least manslaughter.

It sounds like a millennial me-first-right-now. The kids were in her way so she got stashed them out of her way.

She will never be punished by the legal system as if she were a man who had done the same thing. Ever. We have seen this time, and time, and time again.

"Not Guilty By Reason of Ovaries."

There is even a legal term, taught in law schools and in criminal justice, that is called "The Chivalry Explanation in Legal Cases."

Women are held to a different, and lesser, legal standard than men are, especially for crimes against their own children.

We saw this in case of Susan Smith. Instead of being a cold blooded murderer, the defense lawyers presented her as a "distraught mother" and the jury even stated that "she was a jilted victim, a loving mother with severe emotional issues."

Women who murder their children will also claim postpartum depression, which serves a legal innoculation from even the most henious and severe of crimes.

Agreed. Any crime against any child is a horrific.

Most likely, the sheriff was simply reacting to the horror of these beautiful children who suffered in a terrible way before they were killed. He most certainly saw their bodies and supervised their transfer the hospital and the morgue.

I am sure what he meant to convey was these were beautiful kids, which they were. The tragedy would not be any less compounded if they were of another race, but he was describing the children as beautiful. He can be forgiven for that, given what he just witnessed.

Of all the things I saw as a soldier, seeing terrible things happen to children would break my heart. Most things I can take in stride, but not things like this.

You often hear stories of guardian angels helping their charges or divine intervention, yet nothing in this case.

I can’t know the mind of God, but it’s hard to accept that these things are allowed to just happen to such young ones.

There are many times in my life I should of been gone, but God keeps me around, I don’t know why.

It should be murder, and if not guilty by reason of insanity, go to a mental institution with other psychopaths to crazy for prison.

She needs to be subjected to the same method—in a car in the heat.

Why?

Do you have an explanation for that?

I took a criminal justice course recently. I am older and don't need any more Masters degrees, but took it simply to increase my knowledge of the law.

In death penalty cases, legal history, precedent, statistics, and studies all point to the "Chivalry" phenomenon with regards to women.

I believe there might be something innate in men (at least some men) to shield and protect women, even to the point of letting them off the hook to a degree legally. I think we all have to admit that the 14th Amendment's "Equal Protection" clause is not applied in today's America. Juries are also very reluctant to sentence black to death, and fear of being labeled "racist" is a documented reason.

I think another factor of not wanting to condemn mothers who murder their children is because of abortion, which is really the same thing as post-birth murder, but women who have had abortions cannot admit this. So they make excuses for mothers who murder their children.

I know you are right and I'm sure the sheriff knows he could have phrased if better.

This case really bothers me, it's somewhat close to where i live, according to Facebook I'm two friends removed from the murdering little bitch.

In my professional life I have felt with abused kids, parents that abused their kids, parents that have killed their kids, kids that have killed their parents.

This one bugs me.

I think more than anything I am bothered by this not being a major national news story. Twenty years ago it would be big time national news. Now it is not. That is how far our society has devolved.
