Doña Ana County, New Mexico – U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that a Border Patrol agent was recovered after being badly injured. Reports coming in from various news outlets say that the agent was tortured and horrifically mutilated.

On June 10, U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the following statement about the incident:

“U.S. Customs and Border Protection is assisting in the investigation of a report of an assault against an off-duty Border Patrol agent assigned to the Deming, New Mexico, Border Patrol Station.

I have an additional idea to “build a wall”. It would be, “use the wall for firing squads to use on drug smugglers, human traffickers, and gang members”.

Preventing foreign actors from crossing national borders and doing harm is LITERALLY the primary function of ANY army. My understanding of Posse Comitus is that it prevents our military from being used for domestic law enforcement, but protecting us from foreign incursion would be entirely different. This assumes, of course, that whoever got to the border patrol guy was a foreign national, presumably Mexican.

Deming is in Luna County, approximately 60 miles west of Las Cruces. The I-10 corridor between Dona Ana and Hildago Counties is pretty much wide open. There is a lot of drug trafficking through there. SW New Mexico isn’t very safe.

I would respectfully ask that you reconsider this thought. Catch every one involved, cut half of their tongues off and then sever their spines at the waist and gently return them to Mexico for their friends and families to have to care for them. That's just the beginning thought. We need someone with a steel backbone to begin to take care of this problem.

I read comments that there is more to the story, doesn’t pass the smell test, etc. Undercover? Informer? Even if the guy was part of the drug problem, he’s an American citizen, and this crime needs to be gone after full bore. We know they cut off his fingers. I’m guessing, and this is horrible, they gouged out his eyes and cut out his tongue, all three together, would make it almost impossible for him to tell the tale.

You are wrong. The Mexican border is an international border and the President can militarize it any time he wants to. He can use regular army troops also.

Our borders are first and foremost our perimeter. Anything beyond the perimeter is potentially hostile. Infantry 101 says when you set in, first secure your perimeter. Our perimeters are not secure.
